That's interesting... I was clicking on the stars trying to figure out what they are and how they work. Ignorance on my part. I was unfamiliar with them. Nothing happened when I clicked on it via my phone. Hopefully I didn't vote.

This isn't the first thread that I've noticed an undeserved one star rating before, but this one irritated me very much. Don't think it was you as you have to use the rating option at the top right IN the thread (See "Rate This Thread", top right of first post on this page). If you were clicking on the stars to the right of the thread title on the main forum page, most likely it wasn't you.

I rated it 1 star as I think it sucks its being discontinued and if its considered disrespectful to utilize a tool thats at our fingertips then I guess Im guilty. Sorry Jerry if you consider that disrespect sir as I have none toward you or your decisions. The topic of which was derived from whiny poos does deserve 1 star as far as Im concerned, sorry.

ETA- the fact that you threaten to out someone for using the thread rate is in my opinion TRUE bad taste Jaxx.

ETAx2, Im done with this thread and hopefully work keeps me off the forums in general Later hogs.

I wasn't aware that there was a rule here that everyone has to like every thread. People are expressing their disappointment with a decision, both in their posts and by rating. That's not disrespectful, it is just expressing an opinion. Jerry is a big boy, he had to expect some would not be happy, and I doubt he will be offended by a low rated thread.

Now, since it's Saturday night.....

I've noticed abuse of the thread rating system for the last half year or so, especially directed at one specific member here...even when it was not deserved...and I have not raised the issue. But to give Jerry a one star for informing us that an option has been removed is too far. So, bad taste? ...It isn't in as much "TRUE bad taste" as issuing a one star rating to a thread started by the owner of the company of which this forum is here for, and for him notifying us to a change that will affect us, the customers who frequent this forum. So fine... Bad taste is met with bad taste.

Thank you for outing yourself.

I didn't rate this thread, but the notions about Ratings and inferences about it in this thread which are alluded to above are utterly ridiculous - and from a Mod no less. I'm floored by the outrageous absurdity of it.

What in the world is the feature there for, the? And who says there's a right and wrong way to rate a thread at all? And even if there are some boundaries to prevent some crazy abuse - how on earth would this qualify?

I think it is kind of sad that some are criticizing Eric for expressing his opinion. If the star ratings are not for expressing opinions, why do they exist?

I suspect Jerry wants feedback, whether positive or negative, or he would not post at all.
 
I liked the CF finish myself, and will be saddened to see it go. It looks amazing. But, it isn't the end of the world, and we need to keep things in perspective. Jerry is a company owner who made a business decision. He has to worry about his bottom line and ensuring his employees have time for making all of these great knives and aren't side tracked by one issue.

I think people are forgetting all we have to be thankful for this weekend, new websites, ton of merchandise, some sick new knives. I'm very happy to have seen these items come and much faster than I thought they would. My bank account is much poorer for having them arrive, but I'm so excited about all the new knives and booty.

So as Jerry would say... Lets Drink...
 
That Jerry said it could be back time to time in special runs is a nod to those who want it while avoiding the inconvenience to those (likely outside or only casual users of the forums) who either missed or didn't understand the cautions about the tooling marks, etc. Everyone should be happy by that. I was only wanting either competition or satin finish (but still have a hankering for desert sage... and to a lesser extent tanker gray)...

Jaxx, let me start by saying that I mean this with appropriate humility and respect for you obvious contributions to the forum, you are a moderator, and you have been around here a lot longer that I have.
I really like this forum, and I am a big fan (and purchaser) of Busse knives, and I think that I have made some positive contributions to the forum (at least I am no troll). I also understand that Busse sponsors the forum and I assume makes some financial contributions to perpetuate its existence. Having said that, I occasionally find it disappointing that the attitude here lynches anyone who has anything remotely critical to say about Jerry or his knives. The very term "forum" implies open discussion of the good, the bad and the ugly. A forum is different than a paid advertisement, and if no criticism of the company is allowed it has all the value of a news station that has nothing but rave reviews of the president. It becomes only propaganda. Although I did not make the rating myself, I dont think its an unreasonable way express disappointment at the discontinuation of the finish, and, in a way, is really a compliment to Busse that people are disappointed that one of his great products are no longer available. I dont mean to cause waves or be a troll, I just think that it would be nice to keep this a place where people can discuss these knives openly without fear of being "outed" if a rare but reasonable and productively intended criticism is made.

Not to derail this thread...I stated my affection for CF and my sorrow of its departure, but I have to comment on this threat of "outing" by a "moderator".

I think we need to give Jaxx a chance to clarify here guys.

He said "thanks for outing yourself". Outing...as in revealing. At least this is how I interpreted it. He didn't say anything about a penalty for self-expression did he? The outing comment was because dericdesmond revealed that he was the one that voted 1 out of 5 stars. So Jaxx said thanks for letting us know it was you...nothing more than that.

So again, lets give Jaxx a little more credit than assuming the worst here...

Now let's get back on track to what is obviously an unfortunate topic.

Here's where I came from...
Jerry posted this bad news in an open thread. He left it open for discussion and opinions and it is my assumption that he didn't think it would be met with glee...and it wasn't. Bad news is bad news. But, the subject is relevant, on topic, and with news from the owner and CEO of Busse Combat who respected us enough to inform us immediately of the change. Jerry posted the news, and when he was asked why, he responded quickly with a good reason as to why...and that reply was written clearly and intelligently. The thread is important as a general announcement, it is on topic for the forum, and was left by the maker whose sub-forum it is posted in. Posted criticism is one thing...and with one's name attached, it shows that the poster is willing to stand behind his or her comments...but to rate this thread as "terrible" (one star) anonymously is harsh and disrespectful...at least in my opinion. It wasn't deserved.

I will apologize for threatening to out a member over a rating...in hindsight I regret that and would probably not ever make good on such a threat even if I did find out left it "the next time" (i think that's what I wrote). Unfortunately, I let my level of irritation on seeing a one star rating handed to Jerry over what I feel was a legitimate thread rule my keyboard for a moment. Eric is right in that respect...it was in poor taste and I am sorry for that.
 
I guess it would have been nice to have been given a heads up on the CF. "We are think of stopping the option of....", " In a month the CF will no longer be available". just to give a little notice.
