The Dork Ops guys have their own forum!

I don't think it's bad that they call their products fighting knives. I collect fighting knives.
It's the covert deanimation and strategically placed blood groove bullsh** that pisses me off.

It's the ad copy, and blatant rip off of ER's designs that I have an issue with. Going through all of my old copies of Tactical knives, I can't find one Strider, Emerson, Busse, etc. advertisement that mentions anything along the lines of deanimating, strategically placed blood grooves, and such. This kind of ad copy, where the knives are portrayed as weapons first, tools second, is exactly what those in power use as an example for banning knives, guns, etc.

The owner of Dark Ops knives has an account here. There's nothing stopping him from making a post and clearing this business up.

I do not feel bad for giving them grief on their forum. I would ask the same questions and make the same comments here or on any of the three or four other knife forums that I post on. I even used the same name that I use on other forums so I am not exactly hidding who I am. They will not respond to anything anywhere else so maybe they will there.

Just signed up as CovertDeanimator. (Couldn't resist.)

Nice to see our old friend LW has finally found a home. :)

Legendaryurbankiller looks like being a fun guy. (He's not one of you crafty buggers is he? :) )

I had to get in on this. User name is dont-ask-dont-tell. Should be good for a laugh when I think of something to post.

Well, I thought long and hard about whether I should make this post, but I figured "what the hell!" - flame me if you want.

I don't understand why you are going to their forum to essentially disrupt it. Sure, their advertising is rediculous and their hardware is vaporware (so far). But, these people have done nothing to anybody to deserve this. I've laughed along with everybody else while reading posts poking fun at their ads and hardware because that was funny and was within the Bladeforums "family", but now I think we're crossing the line. I think we should have more class. Those guys are just trying (ineptly) to get a company up and running. Give them a chance. The marketplace will weed them out if their product sucks, and ER will go after them if they have violated any patents.

I hope I haven't pissed off anybody, but I wanted to say my piece. Lets play nice ! :)

Thanks for listening.

My thoughts exactly. These guys must have spent lots of dough on advertising so I don't think they're doing all this just to be laughed at and I don't understand why people scream that their designis as ER knockoffs when they haven't even handled the damn thing yet. Too many armchair experts open their mouths too soon.

They scream about them being ER knockoffs because that's what they are.

Here's an example, the first one is the StratoFighter Stilleto from DarkOps, the second one is the Nemesis from Extrema Ratio. This goes beyond just having "similarities"

Now the finished knives may indeed be different from what is seen in their ads, and on their site, but will there be enough differences between them and ER knives that we can stop calling DarkOps knockoffs? I doubt it.

If we politely don't mention the other knife forum, and, by edict, aren't allowed to mention another US forum, why should this be different?
Hey if ya wanna go stir the pot over there...go for it. Enjoy even :D
But gloating about it here isn't going to make anything any better.

Esav, this is your best line yet!
Meanwhile, we're just a buncha dirty peasants having fun bashing the village idiot.
Three mean spirited Republicans for you!

You think that I'm an armchair expert because it's a fact that the concept (if you can call it that) of "strategically placed blood grooves" is a big pile of crap, simply because "blood grooves" were never supposed to "control blood spray"?

You think that I'm an armchair expert because I think advertising that a plastic handle covered with skateboard tape is being advertised as some kind of high-tech feature that is impervious to "Al Qaeda bodily fluids" or whatever is ridiculous to no end?

You think I'm an armchair expert because I recognize them for what they are - rip-offs, slightly modified Extrema Ratio designs?

But I guess you also think that I just don't have a clue 'cause I don't work for a mall security firm, huh?

Laughable.

I do not need to hold one to tell that they look to be 100% copies of ER knives. Call me a armchair expert if you wish because that is funny given how poorly this company has handled all of this. When I went by the Dork Ops booth at Blade last year and the lied to me, to my face, about the knives being lost while being sent to the show by Federal Express, they lost any and all benifit of doubt or respect that I would give a knife company. So I have no problem opening my mouth about them.

I have to ask again. HOW DO YOU REGISTER FOR THE DARK OPS FORUMS!? I have tried and tried, accessing the registration page, reading the requirements, pressing "Agree" -- and being redirected to the registration page, reading the requirements, pressing "Agree" -- and being redirected to the registration page, reading the requirements, pressing "Agree" -- and being redirected to the registration page, reading the requirements, pressing "Agree" -- you get the idea? Endless loop. Don't they want me there?

You've probably seen others use smilies before in e-mail messages or other bulletin board posts. Smilies are keyboard characters used to convey an emotion, such as a smile or a frown . This bulletin board automatically converts certain text to a graphical representation when it is inserted between brackets []. Here are the smilies that are currently supported by Dark Ops Knives Forum:

Somehow, those just don't seem like appropriate emoticons for the Dark Ops forum, do they?

Gentleman, Mr. ronsec is right. Instead of lampooning this new forum, we should be extending a helpful hand of friendship and welcome to our new neighbors in they cyber knife community.

So, let's start by helping them out by thinking up some new and more appropriate emoticons for them.

(And remember, this is in the General Forum, so keep it clean.)

Yes, just a little similar. No effort at all in the design department. :barf:

Tim, when I click on the link to register, I get directed to this page http://www.darkopsknives.com/forums/policy.asp and at the bottom of the page is a button "Agree". I press it and get returned to the top of the same page. Where else can I go to register?

Try this link.

EDIT: that doesn't seem to work either, sorry...hey, just send me an email, I'll give you my password so you can check their forum out if you're interested.
