The edc one knife challenge thread

CHALLENGE: Cadet

Hello Everyone,
I will be reporting weekly about how the Victorinox Cadet is holding up to EDC status. The knife will be used all month long for anything and everything I can put it through. However, each week's report will focus on something different. One week will be office work. Another will be how easy (or hard) the knife handles work in the kitchen, etc.

If there is something special that you would like for me to try with the Cadet, please let me know.

-Sabre Cat

PS. Anyone else going nuts without their normal EDC?

SO I had to put the sheath making on hold today. Found out I have a job interview later this week so I went and grabbed some new boots, then promptly had to shore-up the laces. No big deal of course for most knives, but I do find myself looking forward to using the Trekker at any chance I get. :)

[/IMG]Just an hour ago my 20$ Camillus got the disc drive on my new to me computer unstuck and functioning. This knife has NO play after almost 2 years and gets sharp quick and stays sharp pretty good. Its cheap enough to do the hard work asked of it without worrying the slightest but this thing is a no frills bulletproof edc. I'm not super rich, this thing cuts a LOT of tags off of the kids spoils, so I dont have big bucks after, but starting to make knives and learn more about quality knives has me ready to set aside some for good folders and fixeds.

Edit.
Thanks for the opportunity OP but I'm going to sit this one out.
Good luck everyone.

I like my eggplant (and pizza veggies in general) in smaller chunks than what the pizzeria cut them into, so out came the Companion...

Is this thread going to end well?
I'm guessing no.
Love the concept but maybe not enough constraint.
Thanks.
I'm out.

I'm not quite sure what it is you're referring to? This challenge has been in the works for a month. There's been plenty of time to discuss any issues we might run into during, and your posts in this thread hitherto were good. Why stop now?

Had a chance to get some use out of the Imperial yesterday. Fixing some pipe, and opening a gate hinge. Bout as much use as my normal EDC sees in a week lol.

Well, I've decided to go with my Vic sentry(?) for my heavy/abusive cutting knife to replace my opinel. today I sand blasted the blade and sharpened back up, and reamed some holes in a knife im working on's scales.

This Vic was my first knife, and I carried and used it only for 6 years. Should be a fun way to rekindle the relationship :D. If I'm working I'll carry it as my main, with my Mora for working because I need a bigger knife that's quicker to sharpen on site. Otherwise I carry my cattleman in case my Vic gets unhealthy substances on it and I need to do food cutting without cleaning supplies available.

Just checking in for the first time. Here is a photo of my newest knife addition, the spyderedge H1 Dragonfly.

If it pleases the judge, I'd also like to add the alox SAK classic to my entry.

Together they are a lightweight alternative to my normal carry of a ZT 0560 or Buck 110 and Alox Electrician or Cadet.

Sorry the lighting ended up being garbage and I wasn't willing to take any time to fix it...bed time for this night-shifter.

It's so small, and cute, it feels like something is missing...

Not sure if I'll be able to hold out the entire month....

So far, Ive opened packages and mail with mine, used it to score some cutting lines on a piece of brass and sharpened a pencil

I was planning on using it for meal prep last night BUT got carried away with another project and leftovers were called in for a quick bite. Itll be a long month tho, Im sure Ill find something else to cut along the way, its just remembering to take a pic that I have trouble with.

The nice thing about this Barkie is that it has so many carry options. Rockin the neck carry today.

I'm liking this thing, but not sure I'll make it to the end without disqualifying myself by using another knife before the end of this thing.

No pics, but yesterday the Victorinox Tinker frenched and filleted a rack of lamb an opened a box of chocolates. I didn't know this was going to be a contest and because I don't keep up with photos well I'm not going to participate in the "Most Creative Use" category. I am going to continue with the challenge for myself. So far the SAK has handled everything my ESEE or Spyderco normally would with ease. And it's a huge time saver not having to pick out a knife in the morning.

Hey, where might one pick up an EK&T Companion? And how much are they?
.
Edit: Oh, scratch that. I just saw they are made in China. Not bashing China at all, I'm just trying to only buy USA made knives.
Looks like a great little blade.

12thMan, here is the link you're looking for. The Chinese-produced saber ground S35VN version is now out of production. The next version will be USA produced FFG in CPM-20CV.

Packaging like this can be a little difficult to cut, but the Companion made short work of it. My new favorite fixed blade. I have a feeling the new version will usurp this position.
