Dubz, that is an awesome collection.
Chaga fungus grows on white birch trees. There's places that sell it. You can also use char cloth. Actually, char cloth is easier to light. Punky wood is harder to get going.Dubz, that is an awesome collection. Where did you get the punky chaga? I have been wanting to get a fire piston, they seem like a good little piece of equipment for a "last ditch kit". Moose had one that I think was titanium or some sort of metal that was quite awesome. I was thinking I would like something more like that as I'm not really a fan of bone.
How weird does that make me?! I don't like bone scales or handles or even bone stuff like fire pistons or handles for ferro rods. I don't like the way it feels in hand...
No problem, it was fun getting them back out again. O-rings are the way to go. String gaskets, for me, is more for the cool factor. I have yet to change the string on either one, although both are ready for a change.Indeed. Thanks for sharing the photos, Dubz. It seems like the o-ring seals perform better across the board, that was my hunch.
I don't love it either, it's alright if it's smoothed out, but....I have an heirloom stag handled Anton Wingen carving set from Solingen, Germany. It gets used maybe four times a year, if that. It's great steel, but I don't really like the feel of the antler handles. Looks pretty cool though.Dubz, that is an awesome collection. Where did you get the punky chaga? Yeah, I saw that. There's several tutorials on youTube how to make fire pistons. I saw a cool one today. Be easy to make.I posted this over on your other thread Dubz, but for the benefit of the rest of the snahkahs I thought I'd put it here as well. This guy's YouTube channel has a lot of cool stuff, even some other "survival" type vids.
