THE FIND OF THE YEAR !! What was your best blade purchase of 2014?

Not a purchase since it was gifted to me by a generous fellow forumite, but the best blade of 2014 was a ZT 0560BW that came the day after Christmas, and just two days before my birthday. :)

A custom skinner I had built by Dan Crotts.

D2 steel, Tapered tang, thumb notches, red liners, mammoth ivory scales, mosaic pins, absolutely perfect fit and finish and a match for my drop point hunter he built me.

940-1. Bought it new on eBay. Hard part was not opening the box for a week so my wife could wrap it and put it under the tree. Worth it on X-mas morning though!!

My finds of the year are the Spyderco Techno and the Curtiss Nano. For the reasons behind these choices I've listed below my knife acquisitions for 2014 and what I've done with them.

Spyderco Chubby -- Sent it back
Les George ESV -- Sold it
Curtiss F3 Compact -- Sold it
Microtech UTX-70 -- Carried in wallet unused
SOG Stingray -- Sits in Box unused
SOG Facet -- Sits in Box unused
Curtiss F3 Medium-- Sits in pouch unused
Spyderco Rubicon -- Sits in pouch unused
Microtech Troodon -- Sits in pouch unused

Spyderco Techno -- Used Daily
Curtiss Nano -- Used Daily

I've found that the Techno and the Nano are the most useful for my day-to-day activities.

This year, I got a few nice knives! And of those knives, I am still all googley-eyed over the Southard AVO. I tend to like knives that are small when folded, but carry a large blade. The Southard AVO is a fabulous example.

As for a fixed blade, I managed to finally hook up a like-new except for one tiny scratch CRK Nyala. A friend of mine got one and I fell in love the moment I handled it.

Northwoods Madison Barlow in ivory
Dozier Pro Guides (I believe both of these appeared in early 2014.) I don't keep close track.

My most used 2014 knife is a ZT 0770CF. The runner up would be a Spyderco Native 5 in G-10 and S35V.

Find of the year goes to my lefty Larsson.

Best blade purchase of 2014 is the Habu Minor because it is now my favorite knife that I own.

Not a purchase but a trade from a fellow forum member.

I bought eight knives this year, and they're all good, but the only one I bought two of was the Spyderco S90V Manix2 XL. Great work knife, a little wide closed, but you can drop it in a coat pocket because the ball lock provides a good spring action detent.

Les George Talos "Morph". I picked up some other really nice blades but I absolutely love that one.

The Buck 830 Marksman. This is quickly moving to the top of the list of "most fun" knives I have ever owned.

It's a hard call for me - I've ran through probably 25 custom folders in the past year between buying, selling and trading for new ones.

The most notable ones being -

Rj Martin Q36, Laconico Blast 2 framelock/cf . Both of which I regrettably sold to fund other knives. I also discovered Shirogorov earlier this year, and all I can say is Wow. They make a hell of a mid tech and I'm really sorry I didn't get into them a long time ago. I'll probably always have at least one in my collection. I was fortunate enough to score a 0454 and that is also an incredible knife all around.

As far as the title, "find of the year" monetary wise, I was able to score a Dustin Turpin Logic flipper for a price well below the inflated secondary market value. It should have showed up Monday, and I thought the USPS lost it for a little while, but tracking today just got updated after 6 days. Really excited because I've always been a fan of Dustin's work,

Easy one for me: definitely my Shirogorov 95T in M390. Love it, and carry it just about every day!

Several factors kept my knife purchases to more reasonable levels in 2014; a new baby boy last January which lead to the wife quitting her job, and mostly the realization that I had nice knives not getting enough use. I had gotten a KDSH for my oldest son last Christmas and immediately realized I had to have one. Not a knife but my favorite purchase of 2014 has to be my KDSH which has become a regular part of my woods-bumming combo.

That must be either Kershaw Blur in Blackwash whick have become one of my favourite EDC knives or the very aesthetic Spycerco Lum Chinese in Nishijin.
