The Flea Market Mung Absolution Thread

My only pet peeve with the Flea Market are people who post a reply like, "I sent you a PM to make an offer on it" without specifically identifying who "you" is and which knife "it" is when there are multiple knives available from multiple sellers. Be specific about who and what you are talking about. This is a basic courtesy that will help prevent the hard feelings that happen from time to time when someone feels that a knife was sold out from under them even though they said that they wanted "it."

The English language is a wonderful means of communicating if used properly. There is no extra charge to use enough words to be specific about what you want to say. Using correct spelling, punctuation, and complete sentences are cool too in an old fashioned kind of way.

Stop buying knives from the "sharks". They buy all the knives on Friday and put their old knives on the exchange knowing they will get a good price for them. If we stop buying from the sharks, then they will have to think before they buy.

Who are the sharks? Just look through the past few Friday posts and you will see them.

I would just like to see a few guys get a knife they are actually going to use in the field instead of adding it to a collection. I think it's boring seeing all these pictures of knives sitting on a table with no wear on them. How cool would it be to see those knives used in the field? I mean really used not just gently placed on a rock.

Just a thought.
This and any further discussion related to this belongs in this thread.

This post was very unwarranted. I was a newbie in October but have been able to score the knives I wanted on Fiddleback Fridays due to perseverance and, most of all, by reading all of the great tips that the "sharks" have made available to the new guys. It's clear that Josh hasn't read many of the threads on here or he would have realized that the elders are very willing to assist (and maybe even give up knives that you may want and they may not have an attachment to). I'm not very active on here but I lurk just about every day and this community has got to be the best on bladeforums and is full of stand up guys.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Better yet, just ignore it.

Amen to that...I'm a newbie, and because of the kindness of the "sharks" I was informed how to shark, and am happy with what I've been able to land on fiddleback Friday so far....EVERYONE has a knife sharked out from under them every now and then, it's what keeps the sharks hungry :)

I'd just ignore it Duder, but I'm in a pissy mood, so I'm going to mung the mung thread, even though our troll buddy Josh will probably never read it.

I'm sorry if I and others have offended you Josh with pictures of knives on rocks. I'm thinking you must not spend much time here in Fiddleback land if that's all you get out of it.

Lets take a simple example:

This one must really be offensive since there are 7 Fiddlebacks, and even a couple of others pictured, just sitting on rocks.

Now if you spent a little more time being a part of the community here instead of trolling (hopefully you're not a regular that created a new account just to troll as that'll bring out the banhammer) you'd probably know that every knife in that picture gets used.

For example, the Camp Nessie (that was sharked on a Friday):

It'll split wood and steaks.

You can read more about and even watch a video here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1160028-Fiddleback-Forge-Camp-Nessie-Video-Review

Or how about the KE Bushie (that was bought from a shark):

You can read more about it (and even see a bunch of knives get dirty) here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Comparison-of-4-quot-Bushcrafting-Spearpoints

I could keep going, but I'd hate to bore you with stuff that's already at your fingertips if you really wanted it.

So I guess I'm a double offender as I both shark knives, and buy knives from sharks. I promise to therefore take even more pictures of knives on rocks (I'll call them the Josh284 shots). And maybe I'll even get 'em dirty for you.

There are plenty of folks that buy knives and use them. And there are those that collect them. I'm pretty sure most of us here are OK with that.

Thurin, those are some nice rocks. How is that Leatherman Juice working out for you?

I have a strong feeling the account is from a competitor. But you never know, and maybe he will be a new customer.

Thanks Vayu. I do like my rocks. They hold the knives so well if they're carefully placed.

I like the Juice and I even use it. I got it for Christmas a couple years ago (I think) and it's served me well since. I'd like to get something a little bigger like the Rebar for camping.

Hopefully he's just a frustrated buyer that will become a new customer, whether it's by getting lucky amongst the sharks, from the dealers, or even a second hand one in the flea market.

My wife uses a Victorinix Spirit X that has proven to be a really useful multitool. I've been eyeing the juice as a travel companion. But I digress.

I like rocks and Fiddlebacks...ferns and shrubbery aren't bad either. Melons, granite counters, cutting boards, and frosted-glass patio tables are pretty good as well. We also have hunting/skinning pics, camp sites, backpacking, and pics from all kinds of outdoor adventure. This forum presents a great balance of knives at use with knives at rest.

Great. Now I can't get the tune "Love on the Rocks" out of my head, and I don't even LIKE Neil Diamond....

I LOVE seeing pictures of your ever evolving/revolving collection! You have great knife taste and great photography skills! Thanks for sharing!

Now, I think I'll go to the fleamarket and troll a knife or two to add to my collection! I love Fiddlebacks and love the Fiddleback family that so kindly shares the knives that are not perfect for them! What an awesome product, that you can buy ANY example and there is ZERO chance you are stuck with it if it's not the perfect one for you! Money back guarantee in a sense!

And, after I troll a couple of Fiddlebacks from the mist loved fleamarket, I'm going to go to work, open my Fiddleback safe and pick a Camp Knife and Bushfinger to take with me on a 2 1/2 day trip to the top of a mountain, in the heart of the Appalachia's, with a cool 175 year old cabin, hang my hammock and hang out with my Boy Scouts for the weekend. By the way, the Camp Knife will work the woodpile we'll use to keep warm and cook on this cold weekend, it will then be used to chop the suckling pig we plan on roasting in the ground and then turning to barbecue. The Bushfinger will accompany me on a couple of day hikes beyond our camp and perform many duties as needed. I will then clean them and return them to the safe. Sure sounds fun to me! I'll repeat this the weekend after next...

For the love of Fiddlebacks,

Will

Thurin,
Just one question... Do you like Orange? :D

I got a bunch of good responses when I posted what I was looking for in the flea mkt. Seems to me the system is ok. Prices offered were original or under including shipping.

That sounds like a great weekend Will. Have fun with the scouts and the Fiddlebacks!
