The future of RAT

... For example, stainless steel models, handle options, color options, etc.

Has there been any considerations yet as to what types of steel you may use for revamping the existing line up of knives like the Izula?

Jeff, all I can say is that if you put the kind of quality into whatever you offer in the future that you have into the current product line, then it will a success, no question.

Looking forward to seeing what new ideas/products you come up with.

Along that same line, I think the new "Pat Pack kit" is slicker then snot! Saving up my pennies for one as we speak :)

Wished we could take credit for that RAT Pack but that's all Lost Mountain Iron Works thinkin' right there. When they showed it to us at Blade, we knew they were on to something and wanted it! Believe it or not they said that several other manufacturers barely looked at it when they offered it to them.

I could believe it. It doesn't have anything to do with a knife specifically, so most knife mfrs have no use for it in their eyes. Being survival and training focused, RAT would be the perfect company to put out such a product in my opinion. Just my .02.

Exciting stuff, Jeff. It drives me nuts to see you get worked up about stupid people. You provide a service and a product, and do a damned good job. You have to understand that 99% of the people on this planet are stupid. It's a fact. I'll admit I'm usually one of that 99%. It's a given in today's society that you will get stupid feedback from stupid people that do stupid things, so PLEASE do not let it get to you. Just keep on doing what you are doing-crank out your solid knives with your solid warranty. I completely agree that the soft gear side of both survival and combat really suck. The fact that people think Maxpedition is the standard for nylon and canvas makes me shudder. There are some high quality companies out there, IE TAD Gear, Tactical Taylor and Eberlestock, but you definately pay an arm and a leg for it. I haven't been able to see the training side of RAT yet, but just seeing pictures and hearing of the classes gets me stoked.

This seems like a really good direction and I fully support you. I think that this would further strengthen RAT's excellent reputation for quality and customer service among other things.
I'm sure the new stuff will kick a$$, as always

We have already started the preliminary planning on the folder. Not sure when the final product will be ready. This is going to take a while.

A Spyderco colab would be cool, but I'd love to see a Tim Galyean colab complete with a mudflap girl on the handle. ;)

This will be a RAT product but of course it will be made by an American maker.

As popular and nice as the Izula is, I just prefer a good folder in blades that size. The only small fixed blade I really like is my HEST. But for everyday use, it's hard to beat the convenience of a good folder. There is a lot to be said for a good sharp knife that folds up and fits in your pocket. I'm looking forward to the new RAT folder. I have one of the old Ontario ones, and it's a pretty good knife. A quality American made one would be even better.

There are so many different ways to go with a folder, I cant even imagine trying to design one. Can't wait to see the result. We may as well start a Folder rumor thread just to keep it all in one place.

Good idea. I heard the new folder has an 4" long 1/8" thick flat ground blade of 440C, micarta scales, and a bottle opener, too.

The folder has already been designed by one of our very own on BFs.
