THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

One incredible thing that Sam did with the legtie part of my sheath...He actually placed the legtie via a Loop version, on the Back of the sheath and it sets a little higher up. This prevents the legtie strap from always dropping down below to the smaller part of the leg and thus becoming loose. Truly a fantastic idea by Sam. Soon I will have my Sam Wilson Model 1 aka The Beast.

But this isn't even the Big Deal from Sam....You guys just wait, Sam and I have a very big BIG BIIIIIIIGGGGG knife surprise for the whole knife world, and believe me, every knife lover is going to Want one like this one!! But SHHHHHHHH....We are MUMMING the word or any description about it!!!! Just know that the Knife Of Knives is soon coming!!!! And I myself am even soooo very excited!! It's going to take off like a rocket and it just might even convert some hh naysayers...or at least they will have to have one made, just to satisfy their own curiosity!! All I can say is that The Shocker Is Coming!!!! And in a fantastic way!!!!!! Stay Tuned!!!

As always, great looking knife, Sam! Nice photography as well.

demon, I love your enthusiasm. Enjoy your new knife and please do post a group pic when possible.

After I posted the pics of my brand new handmade Sam Wilson Model 1 Knife, which will be on its way to me tomorrow and I should receive it by Thursday, ...after I posted the pics, that awesome Sam who is fast becoming one Fantastic best friend to.me, has apparently learned my knife likes and not likes like a book. He asked me if I wanted him to lower the satin finish on my Model 1 knife to a more subdued satin finish. See, Sam learned that I absolutely Frown on mirror polished or high bright gloss survival knife finishes, lol!!

That is one big pet peave I have with knives. I mean, who in the world would want a survival knife that when out in the woods hiding from enemies or police or whstever, wants a knife that shines brighter.than the sun? Iean, come on, that would give you away every single time to whomever it is ya hiding from? LOL. In my opinion anyway.

Well, I got off subject...back to it...Sam showed me pics of a 220 grit more subdued satin finish as opposed to the higher 600 grit one. And I tell you, he really knows his stuff now. The 220 grit is just plain beautiful!! I said Go For It Sam Buddy!! LOL. And so, when I get the knife, I will post more pics of it with its less glossy finish. Howrver, one thing we decided on doing was leaving the False Edge area with the higher 600 satin finish!! All I can say about this beauty.is OHHHHH YEAHHHHH!!!! THAT BABY IS MINEEEEEE!! SO GO ON FOLKS, GET YER OWN, LOL!!

Thanks for reading!!

Thank you, Tom. I'm trying to work on both skills :D.

Thank you Nitro. I redid the clip on the Model 1 for demonbeast, and I prefer this way to the original. Some folks won't care for that blade shape, but to me, this one's all about BUSINESS!! :D:D

I love that a knifemaker as talented as Sam is interested in hollow handle knives.

Thanks, bowie. You are too generous. I think luck has a lot more to do with it :)

And demonbeast, thank YOU for all the kind words and for being such a great customer. My finger was still on the ENTER key submitting your invoice when your funds popped up in my account. Believe me, that is a knifemaker's dream.

And while I'm at it, let me flip that pic the right way for you, and put another one or two up there.

demon,

That is one serious looking knife and the sheath is amazing! Nice and thick to support the weight of the knife. Another top quality package by Sam!

Sam,

Demon's Model 1 blade is slightly different than your pesonal Model 1 being that Demon's has a false edge. Was the false edge a special order or did you decide to change the design for a reason? Is the false edge sharp?

Thanks!

Hi guys, there's a lot of good stuff in this thread, I like them all. May I humbly submit my HH knife. I'm sure some of you have seen it, but maybe some of you would like to.

It is based on the 1911 Colt auto grip frame. It uses the magazine for the gear compartment. Has a diamond hone, magnesium ferric rod, fish hooks, needles, synthetic sinew a Leatherman Micra and an led flashlight.

Hope you like it.

Just last week I was cleaning out my basement & got rid of a magazine showcasing those! It ain't no secret I love me some 1911s! Your kit is downright Purdy!!!

I'm really enjoying this thread. Every night I rush home to see the post and pics. I guess I'm going to need it get me a paper route to pay for my first HH. Keep the posts n pics!

Sam,

Demon's Model 1 blade is slightly different than your pesonal Model 1 being that Demon's has a false edge. Was the false edge a special order or did you decide to change the design for a reason? Is the false edge sharp?

Thanks!

I did the false edge differently on Demon's knife for a couple of reasons. One, was that I think the way his knife is done looks better. On the knife on the left in the pic below, which is my original prototype M1, I brought the false edge back and ground it like a traditional false edge. I didn't really know there were any other options at the time, as that was the first knife I ever made. Also, the tip is higher. On Demon's knife, I wanted to make it a little sleeker, and more aggressive looking. So I dropped the tip a little, and did the bevel as you see in the photograph. I like both knives, as to me they represent pure function, and one of the strongest tips you can find on a knife that has a full distal taper.

The false edge was not sharpened on my M1, but on Demon's, while I put a 220 grit machine satin finish on the blade, I hand sanded the false edge to 600 grit, and left it with a zero grind. I didn't specifically sharpen it, but the hand sanding left it with an edge that is sharp enough to grab hair. It also left it with a very nice gloss sheen that contrasts with the rest of the blade.

I think Demon's knife looks better, at least to me, and the aesthetic improvement was made without sacrificing any performance. That is a guiding principle in my knifemaking. I try to make performance the #1 goal, and aesthetics 2nd. Obviously, it's great when you can have both, and some knives will just naturally perform better than others. But that is the order I try to accomplish things in. While it may not be the prettiest knife to some, that is why I love the M1. It makes no compromises for performance. I love bowies, but the M1 will typically outchop a bowie of similar size and thickness, due to the full flat grind, and the fact that there is more weight in the clip. Also, by dropping the point, it centers the tip in your hand better than a traditional drop point. I hope that answers your question, Tom. Sorry for the long-winded answer, but I love that model. :)

I received my Awesome Handmade Sam Wilson M1 knife 2 days ago but hadn't had time to come in here and let everyone know. And it is thought of and made so well...sheath very very well designed and made..this just tells me that any Sam Wilson handmade hh knife is No Joke!!

When I unpacked the M1 knife from Sam, which was very professionally packaged btw, I was in total Awe!!! It is Better rhan I expected. And I already have very high standards in knife designs and quality. And for a knife to exceed those right from the start, is a Big Big plus for the maker. And Sam is accomodating in every way possible. It's just fantastic to have a knife maker and friend with.the same ideas in mind as far as what would be needed in extreme emergency survival situations!!!

Sam Wilson, in my opinion, is a Professional Knife Maker with that talent already embedded in him!! If you haven't done so already, you really need to check out Sam Wilson and his incredible knives which he makes!!!

Sam's MOA system is pure cleverness, well thought out and totally original. I just dig the fact that he is so easy to talk to and has a great pleasing demeanor. That is refreshing considering some of the turd heads I have to deal with day to day out here!

You ain't just whistling dixie there Ron!! It really is a pleasure to do business with knife makers such as Sam Wilson, Ray Matton, and Newt Martin. And there are quite a many more as well. And first and foremost, I will add my good friend Andrew Clifford and that Ole Iron Horse Gil Hibben into that mix too. In my opinion, these guys are just absolutely Top Notch in Customer Service, Outgoingness, Dependability,Compassion, and far superior quality!! And what makes these guys the Best Of The Best in knife making, in my opinion, are their undying compassion, love, and their untiring, neverending hard work in what they do.

And lastly, if Jimmy Lile was still with us, he would definitely be heading that list. And I want to mention one more person. He is my chosen professional sheath maker, is one my very Best Friends, and is also our local Badger Knives Club President. And that man's name is Bob Schrap. Bob makes sheaths only. But he has sooo much knowledge of knives and steel, past and present knife makers. It is just Unreal how much Bob knows, and how much he has already taught me about knives and sheaths!! Just totally Unreal.

Well I am just getting started, as I could sit here and talk about knives all day...for Years even, LOL!! But I will stop here. Give others a chance to write, LOL. But thanks guys, for putting up with my crazy lengthy comments. I just hope that y'all dodn't fall asleep too fast, and that y'all at least read a line or 2!!! LOL
