THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

New Martin knife is arriving tomorrow I'll be making a couple of sheaths for it and posting pics. One kydex and molle and one leather. I'll be siting down at the road waiting to ambush the mailman all morning.

Well the new knife arrived this morning. Very nicely done, the grind lines are really perfect and the fit and finish is as well. Beautiful job from Newt, I'll be ordering another knife from him next month.

One leather for on the belt and one kydex with esee molle back and pouch for attaching to gear.

Cricket,

You make a sheath faster than I can make a sandwich. :D Those look great!

I have lost track of how many HH knives you own. What's the current count and which one would you grab if you could only have one (all things considered)?

I only have 3, they have changed sheaths and handle wraps a lot though lol. If I just had to grab one it would be the surv9 its big enough to do just about anything and not so big its cumbersome on the belt. The only thing I'd do differently if I were to order it would be to have it flat ground instead of hollow ground.

I wonder if Boker will be picking up anymore of Martins designs? Beautiful blades.

Besides, if I had a compass in there, where would I put my ferro rod? :D:D

I really like what you did with the ferro rod fitting the cap. I actually was thinking a guy could just thread the ferro rod itself.?
My go-too knife right now is a BHK Woodsman Pro with a firesteel in the side loop.

Saw a Boker Apparo today at the local Cabela's. It was nice to see a quality hollow handle knife displayed in a brick and mortar shop. Was a bit pricey compared to the internet deals I've seen on them (it was $149) but still nice to see.

I wanted it. :)

You can get the boker apparo direct from Newt with an extra but cap with the compass installed for like 155 i think. They are a nice well built knife.

The next knife I get, once I get the super incredible hush-is-the-word-for now brand new knife from Sam, will be a handmade R3 knife from the Iron Horse knife maker, Gil Hibben. Then unless things change, I plan to get the Handmade 9.5" blade versionof the Martin Aparro knife. I will Not buy the Boker Plus one for just One reason...the blade is too small for my taste. But if only Boker would makeat least a 8 or 9" blade version, preferrably 9", then I would be much more apt to buy one from them. I have Parker knife that has a blade like the Buckmaster 184 knife, except the blade on my Parker, is a 10 inch blade made with 440C steel with added vanadum. And I tell you, that knife is to Die for!

That Parker knife I have is very rare and only a small handful were made, mainly due to the high cost it cost to make them. That is what I learned anyway. Anyway, I just LOVE my collection of survival knives I have going. I am surely one truly Blessed man!!

Demon, will it be the Rambo Bowie or the Rambo HH Rescue? If it's the Rescue, you are going to make a lot of people jealous. Starting with me. :D

Any chance of a collection photo to show size comparison of all the different models? Thanks!

Thank you, I have found it to be quite handy myself. The buttcap gives you something much more secure to hold onto, and with your fingers out of the way, you have almost 3 full inches of ferro rod to strike. As far as threading the ferro rod itself, that's a good question. When I was making the prototypes, I did thread the ferro rod itself. However, I found that whether the rod was too hard, or brittle, or whatever, I had trouble with it breaking or crumbling at the threads. I was also concerned with having something harder than the aluminum buttcap threading in there. If there was any damage or wear, I didn't want it to be on the buttcap, as they are much more expensive for the customer to replace than the ferro rod attachment. Hope that makes sense.
