THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

Sam have you thought about threading to fit a exotac fire steel, then it would be easy to replace down the road for the customer.

I decided I wanted to do a sheath where the top was closer to the ends of the lugs on my new knife so I whipped one up this afternoon, still drying.

I had thought about it, and I think its a good idea, Dave. The main thing that held me back was I didn't like the idea of having my product being dependent on someone else's product. Meaning, if Exotac ever discontinued offering those rods, or changed the threads, or whatever, it would impact their availability to my customers and myself. Then I would have to either change the threading in the cap, or they would have to buy a new cap, or whatever. So I thought it would be simpler to just make them myself.

And I have to add, you crank out sheaths faster then anyone I've ever seen. If you ever need some side work, let me know, lol. I wish I could bang out these M.O.A. sheaths that fast.

Thanks Sam its an advantage to have a saddle stitcher. I'm limited on thickness though it only sews up to 1/2inch. Your MOA sheaths look thicker.

One incredible thing that Sam did with the legtie part of my sheath...He actually placed the legtie via a Loop version, on the Back of the sheath and it sets a little higher up. This prevents the legtie strap from always dropping down below to the smaller part of the leg and thus becoming loose. Truly a fantastic idea by Sam. Soon I will have my Sam Wilson Model 1 aka The Beast.

I've been meaning to post a pic of this. I have always wanted something different than just the flap that hangs down at the bottom of the sheath for using as a tie-down point around your leg. Those work fine, and I put them on my sheaths too, but I wanted to try something a little different, that would give the sheath an even cleaner look, and help the tie-down from dropping around your leg as much. I'm sure I'm not the first one to do this, but this was my version.

Here is what the front of the sheath looks like:

And this pic is the back. It's before stitching and finishing, but you get the idea:

I like it so far. I will continue to experiment and see how it goes.

I would imagine that would help to speed things along a bit. Either way, you work quick. And you are correct, the MOA sheaths are definitely thicker than that, especially at the throat, where the blade and PSK knife and stone are stored.

Yeah looked like it to me. I like the loop on the back good idea. I mostly make holsters and belts and chaps and spur straps knife sheaths and the toe of open western holsters are the thickest things I ever need to sew so my machine does great for that. Saved me a ton of money on equipping family and making tack for my horses.

Well ordered another Martin, the mce2 9,5inch saw backed blade in s35vn. 3 months is going to be a wait lol.

I got lucky... snagged an MCE2 yesterday from Mist. OH YEAH! It will be used well this summer heavily :D

And about ferro rods being tapped... hasn't anyone seen the Exotac nanostryker XL fire rods??? I carry one on my keychain.. They are sweet little tools.

Nice Sloth, thats essentially what I ordered with the exception of full bead blast and no sheath. I'm surprised Mist sold it, I'm sure you will enjoy it though.

For the tapped ferro rods I like the Exotac too, the one thats a little larger than the nano.

Demon, will it be the Rambo Bowie or the Rambo HH Rescue? If it's the Rescue, you are going to make a lot of people jealous. Starting with me. :D

Any chance of a collection photo to show size comparison of all the different models? Thanks!

Hello,

Sorry guys, Ive not been on here in a while due to just being really busy. To answer these questions, YES, I plan to order the Rescue knife when I can from Gil. ut might be a while longer than I planned now cause I just bought a handmade full tang Damascus steel, stag handled toothpick-type knife made by Richard Johnson. He also lives in WI and not tht far from me. The knife was $495 and I mean worth every cent!!! Ut is absolutely Flawless. But anyway, yeah, the Hibben Rescue knife is my plan.

And I can make a collection pic of my knives but Im no camera man, lol. I mean, how would I fit 30 ir so handmade knives on one pic? LOL. And thats not even All of the knives I have. But out of those, Id say close to half of them are hollow handled knives. Im not being sarcastic or bragging...I really truly dont know how to fit all those knives on one pic? Any suggestions at all?

I am really enjoying the Hell out of my new Sam Wilson handmade Model #1 Hollow Handle Knife!!! That knife is truly one badass knife!! But the baddest Sam Wilson knife is even yet to come!!! Hey demon,

Sounds like you have around 15 HH knives. Just line those puppies up, stand back and push the camera button. You might need to divide them into two photos. Again, it would be a useful illustration of size comparison between the models. A quick description of each (maker and model) would be perfect.

Thanks TAH. I will try just that. TY buddy!!

You know, I must be as silly as you blokes. After reading this topic, I just went out and bought myself a Schrade Extreme Survival Knife SCHF2SM. The last time I had a hollow handled knife was just after the first Rambo movie and that was a long time ago. And just like everyone else's cheap copy of the Rambo knife, it eventually fell apart and I swore I would never buy another. I think I had to have a hollow handled knife in my collection because that is what started me on my knife collection journey many, many years ago. And it's nice to feel like a Rambo again, even if only a much paler and older shadowy and fantasy version, and with a slightly shorter knife. This topic bought all the memories back - damn you blokes.:D

Yeah I know how you feel Glenn, I had been collecting knives starting in the mid 70s. When the rambo movie came along I was fascinated by the knife. I finally got one in the late 80s when I got out of the Army, and loved the Lile knife. I lost it to a break in a few years later and I've always regretted that. So now I'm picking up where I left off 30 years ago.

One of the things I have not seen mentioned as being kept in the hollow handle is an oil soaked cloth. I am wondering if anyone has tried that. When I was in the Army Cadets at school , the 303's we used regularly carried oil and a pull-through in the rifle butt. It just seemed logical with the 1070 steel used in the Schrade knife that I have ordered that I should carry an oily rag in the handle to wipe the knife down with after use. (On a side note, when I went to high school in Australia a full armoury was kept on the premises including automatic weapons and even had a rifle range on the school grounds - by the age of 15 I had been trained in the use of the 303, the bren gun, the owen sub-machine gun, and the SLR - I think the younger generation of Australians would be surprised by this and what a different era where an armoury could be kept like that without fear of theft. The drug problem arose after that period in time.)

We'll I did the same thing as Glen Jones did only I got the smaller version! Put a wicked edge on it ( hope not to sharp for type) reprofiled it back to maybe 25 inclusive ? Now my question is,,, I found an Al Mar/ Chris Reeves collaboration 7.5" blade ???/ 200 NIB at a dealer! Haven't made myself spring for it yet,,,looking at the how much is left after taxes thing for now!!!! He wants 5 Bens for it! Would like anyone's opinion ,, thanks!

I've never seen a al mar/cr collab, is it the bowie blade, serrated top and red string wound handle?
