THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

I've heard nothing but good things about mr wall so I wish I had put my money there...

I can certainly concur with this statement.

I wasn't going to ask, but curiosity has gotten the best of me. I am not able to PM you, so if you would have a chance to email me the info regarding the knifemaker you have been having problems with, I would appreciate it. Although my next custom is going to be a Sam Wilson SAFE model, and I'm pretty sure I am "safe" going with him!

Thanks!

Email sent :-) I just wish I knew what to do...I mean he has my money and on the 20th of this month it's two months since he had payment for nearly finished knives (well so I was told)

If I had paid paypal I would of claimed it back by now. Obviously the guy wanted payment by international money order so I could not claim it back...

I can't get to the USA from uk or I would pay a visit and demand my money back or my knives!

Got the email, uk. Very sorry to hear of the problems you are having. I hope for a speedy resolution for you.

So I got myself a cheeky randall model 18. Lovely thing. It's an older one and the compass has a bubble...anything I can do to get a replacement one?

Arclight, if the compass isn't functioning properly, you can remove it yourself, if you have even a tiny bit of mechanical aptitude. You just need to heat up the buttcap to loosen the epoxy. A small propane or even butane torch, or even a good heat gun will work. Put on a heavy leather glove and hold the buttcap with pliers in the gloved hand. Wrap the threads with a piece of leather so you don't mar them. Then just aim the heat gun or pencil torch at the base of the buttcap, on the bottom. You don't have to get it smokin' hot, just really warm, usually. Have a little probe or awl ready and after it starts getting warm, probe it occasionally until it comes loose and you can pry it out.

Then I would clean up the residue with alcohol or other solvent and a piece of steel wool or Scotchbrite, and you're good to go. Then just buy a new compass and epoxy it in there. If you have any other questions, let me know. I hope that helps.

very nice I have always loved the look of those, i'd wrap the handle and then just use that bugger like i stole it.

Beautiful Model 18's. Making me wish I had ordered my Wall in 7.5"!

Thanks for posting pics of this classic knife, guys.

It really is a thing of beauty :) I'm after a replacement end cap. No compass just the cap. Has anyone had any experience of this. Do randall sell them I have asked and I am awaiting an answer

I am not sure if Randall sells the caps, but if it helps, I have seen them for sale on a certain famous auction site....

You would have to ascertain that the threading on the cap would match the handle however.

Thanks my friend. Ps I have named the maker on another site and the good the bad and the ugly on here I've had enough. Other site is british blades

Since its just too freakin hot outside to keep working I took a pic and came back in the air-conditioning.
