THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

Thanks cricketdave, the old battle axe (wife) is helping me with this now, I'm better with knife making than computers, lol..by the way nice looking pic, is that knife a martin?

Very nice knife, the picture I'm trying to post is basically just my design drawn and cut out until tomarrow when I start making it, the knife in making is actually an almost exact replica of 1985 jack crain knife from the movie commando, this is something I've wanted to do for a while but like I said I'm not having any luck finding my hollow handle and Im thinking I might have to machine one

I've always liked the Crain knife he lives and has his shop not far from me, too bad he has had a lot of health issues and delivery issues. Back in the 80s he was dependable and friendly. That poor old springfield has had the hell beat out of it over the years, i've rebuilt it several times and reblued it a few times too. Its getting to the point of needing a new finish again.

I've got several of Newt Martins knives and really like them he does a good job and they are tough.

Nice collection man, looking real good! Ya your right newt is a very good knife maker, I use the same principles he does with securing the handles and I've never had one break in me or anyone else. Hey how do you like your apparo? Is it a boker production or made originally from martin? My wife actually wants one but I'm thinking I'll just spend the $120 bucks and grab her one from eBay. Hey maybe you'll like my jack c. Replica and want one, lol

Its the Boker version and I like it fine, I'm not a fan of 440c but it works very well just a bit thick behind the edge needed some thinning out to have a useful edge. Its on my emergency bag in the back of the truck. Oh the stock sheath from Boker is crap so you will want to replace that.

Looking awesome Dave! Loving your collection so far!! Hey I started making that knife today, been working on it since 7 this morning, taking a break now for the night, got it all cut out and must of its ground down rough, I'm thinking if buying myself a good quality master cutlery rambo knife just for the handle since I'm not having much luck finding one, can't wait til this is finished, my very own crain commando replica. Lol, maybe I'm the only one excited but what ever

Sounds like its going to be cool I'd like to see the blade shape and drawings. If you can't find the tube I'd head over to the nearest machine shop and see what they would charge me to cut me one and thread it however you want. Maybe even texture the outside for you.

I do own a metal lathe, I can do everything except the threads , I can knurl the handle bUt the threads are an issue, good call though I'm gonna head over to a friend's machine shop tomarrow, I'll just have him do the whole handle cuz he does it everyday, probably slit faster than me. ...I'm gonna have my wife see if she can get this pic up in here now, I can give u my email Dave if we can't get this working on here

Here we go Radicalbearpaw

These look like the Crain knives from Commando instead of Predator. I do look forward to seeing them done.

Yes sir, commando it is. .. my bad, thought I mentioned that, I've cut out the rough today from 01 carbon steel, I'm going with the middle one, calling it the SHOCK super high output civilian knife.. it should be pretty cool

Thank you very much for posting them, I realize its just paper but they will turn into the real thing within the week, maybe I'll ship you one Dave to do some reviews or tests on. .. Thanks again

Little better picture with sheaths. The sheath on the bottom is a Andy Wood thats I bought when I got my first Rambo Knife (second one from top), in case I wanted to carry it. Haven't had to carry it yet. If Alexander the Great had had one of these knives, perhaps he could have conquered the world. Leonidas would have carried the Mission knife i believe. Wrong time in history i suppose. Jimmy LILE was the man.
These are a matched set. Both 45/100.
