THE Hollow Handle Knife Thread

If you notice the washer on the paracord at the bottom of the sheath. That just happens to be the exact size to undo the screws on the laser strike's scales.

Does the ESEE come with some sort of screw driver built into the sheath for access to the hollow?

It comes with a washer, and the bolts are flat heads. I added a washer for a total of two, which you can see on the sheath at the bottom. Pretty clever, I think.

Hey Dave buddy you out there? I just found a good deal in buying a dozen boker plus apparo's, (which i need two odd the handles for my 2 jack Crain s replicas that I'm almost finished with for) Beth from usaknifemaker.com emailed me saying that the guy who makes there hollow handles had a problem with his machine has now fixed it, so that's why they haven't had any hollow handles to sell should be ready in about a week, but being the impatient person I am when I want something now I get it now, I decided to buy these 12 boker apparo's basically cuz there cool, and the fact I need 2 of the handles, I just paid 700.00 for a dozen which o think is cool, but I would love that sweet looking green cord that you have Dave, would you be interested in selling me some since I can't find it? Let me know, thanks Buddy

Got one of these headed here now, should be here Tuesday.

Kizlyar Supreme Survivalist X in D2.

I got one of their folders last year, and was very impressed by the quality. I've picked up a couple of their fixed blades since, and I've always wanted a hollow handle survival knife, so decided to give this one a try.

Thanks for that, I tried to research it as much as I could, before buying, but almost everything I found was in Russian! So I just had to follow along as best as I could.

I'm a hollow handle guy all the way and I really think the bad wrap all these hollow handle knives got in the 80's is right in the money as far as production knives go, I mean the only production knives that have ever been any good at all is the buckmaster 184 which personally I think they never should of stopped making and the newer boker plus apparo, but there is really really good hollow handles out there but everyone is scared of them! I know what works and I know what I've been using since the 80's and all these clowns out here who don't actually use their knives have some type of opinion about our knives don't knife what their taking about anywAys. .. us marines who actually saw combat and lived through real battle know what works and what doesn't, I left for overseas in 2003 and spent real time doing what I was trained to do and no one will ever tell me a good solid hollow handle knife can't do its job because I still habe the one that's been with me since 1999! Semper FI!

I was glad to see you posted this, Bear Claw. I have been wondering about this knife. Please keep us posted.

Does anyone have a boker plus apparo that they customized? Either sheath or green handle, anything different that they can send some pictures of?? Curious to see what people have done

Hey Radical, shoot me an email and I'll get some cord out to you. Sorry was at the VFW for a valentines dance with the wife, lot of fun and some booze lol.

I think on this very thread, some late 70s early 80s Japanese-made aluminium handle Parker Brothers HH knives were mentionned as being carried into various theaters extensively, and they seemed to have proved good (demonstrating the prejudice against even some of the cheaper HHs was always just that), although the triangle saw "notches" were useless... I'm referring particularly to the solid cast aluminium handle models, one of which looked a bit like a Model 18 with a 6" blade. It even had finger grooves moulded-in the handle, and it is one of the models I would like to own in pristine condition one day (if that should ever comes up)...

Even the other style of separate screwed-on tube handle construction -with a method unique to Parker brand types- was not fragile (it had a peculiar outside-tube collar ring, screwed-in near the guard, that seemed to work very well)... Unfortunately I got a long while ago their big 9.5" Damascus 10th anniversary HH (1985), and, unknown to me, the blade stock on that was 1/8"... For a blade nearly ten inch long...: I promptly got rid of it, although it was otherwise very well-made, and could have been made functional...

I finished yesterday re-"scratching" my Model 14's hollow grind, with worn 320-600 grit paper (masking off the flats, and edge, with Scotch magic tape), softening the vertical "scratches" with a final vertical polish motion of 6000-8000 grit, to "soften" the coarse "base" scratches. This produced a very nice, very consistent satin finish, that subdued the Randall surface "swirls" irregularities. "My" finish I think is better than the Randall factory finish... Well at least in my opinion... The swirls still peek through but barely: I am very happy with this knife now, and as usual the thin Randall edge took on a really vicious angle. I remember when I first saw this one: I was of course familiar with the 18 blade style before, but I did not even know it could be mounted on a Model 14 handle(...), and to this day I think mine, with its peculiarities, is the single most handsome interpretation of the 18 blade style I have seen (very old 18s are usually pointier, but somehow more bland looking as well)... It is easily the most handsome knife I own. Strangely enough, I think the camoed Spec-ops sheath is so nicely made it actually enhances it further compared to the original Randall leather...

I think I understand the Randall scheme now: No matter how many of the same model you buy, you still get a different knife every time...

I'd love to hear a detailed review of the "Kizlyar Supreme Survivalist X in D2"...

guns_and_labs, that all-black Martin looks great, as does the sheath!

Yes the green bank line on my Apparo was given to me by Dave: Thanks again Dave! It kinds of adds a spark of colour!

Hey Dave, I been trying to find your email from last time I sent you those pictures but can't seem to find it, also I wanted to put up a picture of tactical knives magazine may of 2013 and the boker plus apparo is on the front cover, just a little thing I think everyone would enjoy seeing

TAH that was some carpenters cord from Home Depot, in a very light tan. Its not nearly as strong as bank line or micro para cord but it worked pretty well.

Radicalbear, nothing on the blade but dirt and scratches, I'd beat on the Apparo pretty good when I took that pic and hadn't cleaned it up yet. I got your email and I'll reply in a bit, hung over and moving slow this morning. lol

Lol, that's awesome, how you and the wife had a good time last night, I know we did. .. Well until 12 inches of snow came down and I had to go plow my accounts

I want one!

Dave,

Just got on Home Depot's website and I couldn't find carpenter's cord or string. If it isn't too much trouble, can you see if you can find it on their website and attach a link?

Thanks!
