Happy late b-day, Jerry! (for those who have not had the pleasure of meeting that rascal in person, I assure you... he's a hoot to have around the campfire, and he's a great example of a fun-loving Beckerhead :) )

In other news, please also think a happy thought for Miss Angie today... it's her birthday. :)

Happy belated to Jerry and real thing to Miss Angie!

When I got the G17 a guy that knew more than me told me to get the G19 instead and I probably should have. Then again, if I had I might not ever bother with the 17 and I really like the 17 too. I've carried it a lot and the butt prints just barely but you can't tell it's a gun. A gun person might guess it was but it would just be a guess.

If you look at the 9mm vs .40 debate I think a lot of it comes from where people are getting real-world experience. Most .40 shootings are going to be from law enforcement using good HP's where as reports on 9mm is likely going to come from vets packing the Beretta M9 and ball ammo, at least that's my theory. I've read that a lot of instructors and industry experts are going to the 9mm because it offers less recoil and more capacity and is marginally less effective than the .40 and that's been my feelings since I got into pistols. There's not a huge difference with modern ammo so I go mainly for the 9mm or jump up to the .45acp.

This is spot on. More than one of the distributors have told me that a lot of police departments are moving away from .40 when they trade in. They are going with 9mm for the regular patrol officers and .45ACP for the SWAT-types. I've heard the theory that instead of getting the best of both rounds (9mm and .45), the .40 got the worst of both. Sometimes, a compromise is worse than picking one or the other. This is true in more things than just ammunition...

Cool little blade. "Snub Nose Moose Knuckle", haha:

Nice to see him getting out of his comfort zone. Very cool blade. I like a lot.

Totally agree with this sentiment. My pet peeve is "fighter-bombers". If it's a good fighter, it can't carry a decent bomb load and if it's beefy enough to carry a good bomb load, it's gonna be too slow and non-agile to survive a dogfight with a real fighter.

So true. I am so glad I don't have to fly those multi-million dollar P.O.S.'s....

I haven't shot a whole lot of .40 but the couple times I have I didn't really notice much more recoil than 9mm. Then again I'm a big feller with a lot of trigger time. A lot of other people seem to think the .40 kicks noticeably more, which it would.

I have a lot of experience with both calibers and truth be told I prefer the 9mm. Why? Various reasons, most of which have been said already. Also, the 9mm round has come a long way. Its hard to find a factory production 9mm round that over penetrates these days. As an example, look at Hornady's Critical Defense Round.

This is certainly my opinion. The 9mm tends to be loud and snappy, but not too strong. The .40 takes loud and snappy up a level. I'd rather have the low-frequency hard shove of the .45 in a slim, controllable single-stack configuration than the crack and buck of a .40 that twists in my hand.

Generally I prefer subsonic pistol loads anyway, since the nasty crack is brutal on the ears. Almost all .45 and .38spl fits that category. If you handload, you can stack 180gr sweeties in a .357 case at 1000fps with moderate pressure (unlike the .40's high pressure) to match the muzzle energy of the .40, but with better downrange ballistics and a much nicer recoil profile.

Hot wings and beer... a good start of friday night.

Slept more today than i have in months.

Sunday going to an indoor water park.... Wasnt my idea, rather not go, but its for the kids.

That little snub nose knife is pretty damn cool.

So I had a bit of an issue the other day. My laptop died. The hinges that hold the screen to the case broke off. To remedy this issue while at work today I went and bought a Surface Pro 3. It is taking a couple minutes to get acclimated but its pretty fricking sweet.

My Glocks are actually loaded with CD right now. Mainly because that's what they had at the store other than just generic cheap HPs

Just slap some duck tape on that sucker and call it good.

I was just looking up knife carry laws in neighboring states (I live within walking distance of one, 15 min drive to the other) and I came across this for my own state of NH:
Representative Jenn Coffey, a well-known activist and knife enthusiast, introduced the Bill, to create the freest place on earth for knife enthusiasts like herself. The law now allows for the concealed and open carry of any type of knife by anyone who is not a convicted felon.
Very satisfying to put whatever the hell I want in my pocket or on my belt and not worry about it. Even (gasp) be proud of it. Not that I've worked my way up to EDC'ing the 9. Yet.

Even better than Oregon. You can carry just about any knife you want openly there, even autos. I think the limit for concealed was 4 or 4.5"

of course that will encourage you to be lazy and then look like a lunatic when you cross those borders... :-(
