Bad news good news. Bad news, I didn't get that job I was hoping for. Good news is, a well known company bought ours out, and as of January, things will be quite different, with an "attractive" package. Yup, raise, benefits, etc.

That's awesome dubz!!

Been hunting for deer every chance I get and still nothing. Gotta work the rest of the week and the last day for rifle season is Saturday.

Going to try to make the most of it a pull an all day hunt. Either way this is our first season and I already can't wait for next season. Thinking about picking up a 12g shotgun for grouse and rabbits once deer season is over.

Looking at Remington 870 and 1100, Mossberg 500, and a Benelli Nova.

What do you guys think?

Jeremy

I like 870's - and a certain outfitter store has them on killer sale this weekend.
I am not a fan of the tang safety on Mossberg 500's - but the maverick 88 is the low end version of the 500 with a crossbolt safety and it has a decent rep.
the 1100 was a good platform, the 11-87 is not a bad one, Benellis have a good rep.

Can't really go wrong with any of those. The 500/88 or the 870 would be easiest to customize to your needs and the pump actions aren't going to care what ammo you feed them. Or you can always go get a used single shot for less that $100.

scout, then get into your spot EARLY. Don't move around. Pretend to be a rock unless you have a tree stand.

I have a 500 20ga and it's a decent gun. Plenty of pop in a 20 too. The safety doesn't bother me, and it's ambidextrous. But I'd prefer a shotgun that rattles less than a pump and has some fore-grip that's quite a bit closer to the action.

I've shot a Nova - kicked like a mule. That was a long time ago, though.

The 1100 in 20ga would be my personal pick.

I love my new Mossburg 935 SPX think thats right ..lol I like it ALOT more than my Remmy 1187

I have an Ithaca model 37 and a winchester model 12 and both are fantastic shotguns. But honestly I really want a H&R single shot 12 GA

Thanks guys!

I failed to add that I MIGHT want to hunt turkeys in the future as well. I am not sure. That is why I was thinking 12g. The Benelli can shot 2 3/4, 3, and 3 1/2 inch shells and seems to have a good following.

It will mostly be for birds and other small game though.

Jeremy

Benelli are very very nice, but also spendy. Not that that is a bad thing. From what I hear they are worth every penny.

You could put a youth fore-end on it, but you also have to swap the slide and action bar assembly that the fore end goes one. I don't think it's expensive though.

Missed a chance at a nice 37 a long time ago. I have a handfull for H&R/NEF shotguns and rifles though. I really like those things.

The H&R is what I want for a woods gun, carry a couple adapters and there's not much it couldn't do

I had a H&R 12 cut down to 18" and put a sythetic stock on. Kicks like a mule but it's very handy. I'd like to get a Rossi .410/.22lr combo. The whole package with both barrels is maybe 4 pounds. I have a Rossi "snake charmer" .410, very light weight and just cool.

I remember the days I used to get paid to train with 870's....good times.
