The hyping of Chris Reeve Knifes

It certainly appears to me that his blades are mediocre at the very best, and very hit and miss with quality control.
Please understand this is just my opinion from all the reading I have done and the videos I have watched.

And you got all that out of youtube videos and forums without ever handling one of Chris Reeve's knives? I guess you know how it feels to drive the KIT car from watching Knight Rider on tv too...? I'm surprised by the politeness of most responses to your original post, but I guess you must be too, cause it was borderline trolling!

I'd like to add my 2 cents in for the "fit and finish perfection" that so many CRK owners love to boast about. I completely agree that his knives are flawless and very well inspected.

But I expect that from any company honestly..

I know it seems like a big task to produce flawless and near perfect knives, but if Victorinox and Kershaw can do it, I expect all companies to. Except Victorinox and Kershaw do it with very low prices.

I have no issue with anyone who has a CRK and loves it to death, I can't blame you. But I often see the owners trying to justify the high price with the "perfect fit and finish" excuse.

While in reality the most impressive thing about CRK is how many products they sell regardless of their steep prices. They are well tested, simple, and plenty functional- and the high price makes them seem a bit more special than they are.

This thread is titled the "The hyping of Chris Reeve.." A better analogy of hype would be the most anticipated movie of the year that turns out to be a dud both in entertainment and financial value. CRKs are time tested, well regarded and carry zero financial risk should one decide to part ways.

Oh what one bad you tube vid can do:p

I am willing to bet you, there's a whole new generation coming that is extremely well prepared for the inevitable attack of the zombies...just by subscribing to Nutnfancy's youtube channel! But I'm probably missing a data point here:D

Now that was really funny. LOL :D

I've handled a 2003 Snakewood inlay that belonged to a friend (months before he lost it in the boonies, unfortunately). It's a nice knife, with great fit and finish, but it did not leave a lasting impression on me. I do not find the super close tolerances to be much of a tangible advantage, though I'll agree it speaks volumes about the attention to detail in the manufacturing process.

I'm not going to question anyone else's experiences - but if I owned a Sebenza, it would not displace my M390 Military, ZT 0301, or BG42 ARS in my EDC rotation.

Of all folders in the 385$+ range, I would be more likely to get a Hinderer in the near future than any CRK. Or even try and score an unobtanium Lochsa, assuming by some virtue a good deal showed up, or orders opened.

typo - Turd - and at least back when, (look at my signup date) the common affectionate name for them was "the grey turd".

I was recently turned off CRK /= I may get my friend a mnandi later but...........personally never ago. GREAT FEEL! FANTASTIC LOCK UP!! it is my dream knife,.......minus the steel. Something is odd with the S35Vn. It has turned me off it crk for good because of that since i heard he is switching to that steel

Hi,

The overwhelming general consensus on ALL the forums is that Chris Reeve Knifes make the best production/semi-custom knives available today. I have spent many days perusing all the
forums reading all the CRK fan boy comments...."best knife on earth", "it just feels right", etc. Ok, well thats all fine, BUT the mast majority of these folks NEVER mention the blade performance
or talk about the blade's cutting ability or the blade's edge retention or how long it holds a razor sharp edge. It ALL about fit, feel and finish and NOT the important part of how the blade cuts
and performs....I dont get it.

A very popular You Tube channel member put the large Sebenza 21 to a cutting test, and it failed miserably! Than tester got nasty, immature comments from the all CRK fanboys. It certainly
appears to me that his blades are mediocore at the very best, and very hit and miss with quality control. To me , that is unacceptable for a $425.00 knife.

So, do most of the CRK Sebenza owners buy these knives simply to play with and constantly and mindlessly flick it open and closed while sitting on the couch watching TV, or, they they acutally
use them daily and if so, what are you results with the blade performance?

Please understand this is just my opinion from all the reading I have done and the videos I have watched.

Dude, that isn't even a mediocre troll. And if it isn't a troll, you could always use the search function and read the 50,000 previous threads that asked exactly the same question.

Its a lovely day for a stroll.

I knew it was a typo, I was just ribbing you.

Just the same, I have never heard a CRK referred to as a "turd".

One has to wonder what's wrong with subtlety.

The A.G. Russell Acies and the titanium version of the Kershaw Speedform come to mind. Very subtle designs. Very nice knives from what I could see.

aot of very old people thought the world was flat, hitler was an old man, racism was widely accepted 50 years ago, my grandparents can not use a computer..... they are all old

hell mr reeve has flaws with his knives he wont acknowledge...... why does he still use 1 thumb stud primairly, why does he think flicking a knife is bad, why does he run a super steel at about 58.5 rockwell. listen to crimson tide shooters videos and you can tell he is a knife expert.
