The idiot's guide to the AR-15 rifle (or an idiot building one)

Two-stage triggers are military style triggers. Usually not quite so slick or light as a single stage, but that is good in a defensive rifle because you have to be more deliberate with it.

Single stage triggers are better for target shooting, hunting and plinking, although people do use them on fighting rifles as well.

More magpul stuff..

We've got a LOT of new magpul goodies coming out in 2010 (most of them within the next few months I've heard) http://www.magpul.com/assets/files/2010Catalog/3-MOE.pdf

I want the MOE +grip, MOE Vertical grip (MVG), couple polymer rail sections, and iphone cover.

Not in that link but saw elsewhere that a sling attachment point for the MOE hand guard is coming too. Might have to get that.

Looks like there's an MS3 sling coming out (saw a pic but didnt know what was so different for the same price as the MS2), as well as Pmags in 5, 10, 15 and 40 round capacity. Saw a pic of the 40 rounders, looks a little funky to me.

Got My DDXV today after a long shipping ordeal! This is it stock for now but I will be putting on 100% MOE furniture (Hand guard, stock, and waiting for the new MVG (MOE vertical grip) and MOE +grip (new grip with rubber inserts)), Magpul MS2 (or MS3 if it's out by the time I have the $), Daniel Defense rail QD sling mount and QD swvel for rear QD attachment (already installed thank you DD), Fenix TK10 light set up, Magpul BAD lever, and for now, 5 pmags.

Very nice Jake.

Have you used any Fenix lights before? I was all about getting a couple until I was at a low light handgun class and a guy's Fenix crapped out. He said it was his 3rd one that had done that and the first two he thought for sure he got lemons. The light went to about a 5 lumen light in every mode. New batteries, reset it, nothing helped. He said he would have thrown it into the woods during that class if there wasn't a chance of someone finding it and thinking it was worth something.

The difference between the MS2 and the MS3 is the hardware. Magpul switched to different attachment devices because they could keep up with production rates better.

I have a few Fenix lights Adam and have never had a problem with any of them.

But Surefire...Don't get me started. I'd throw them into the woods but I'd be afraid....

Surefire is probably the poster child of hype = cost. They're good lights in my experience but Streamlight is pushing them further out every day, at least for my use.

Surefire suppressors on the other hand.... :D

I am definitely a surefire fanboy.. but man, I dont like spending the $ for them. I know they're awesome (Having a 6P, L4, and used to have an E1L).

I had never used fenix lights before this year. My room mate was looking for a good light and didnt want to use 123 batteries or spend more than $50-60. So i recommended a Fenix LD20 (solely based off of their reputation) and that thing is AWESOME. Built very solid and very bright. I liked it a lot. Read lots of reviews on the TK10 and not many had much bad to say about them. If it craps out, well, I'll save up for a SF.

I have a Fenix PD30 I will be mounting on my AR. Solid light. Better than my Quark cr123 Tactical for a weapon light but I like the Quark better for EDC.

That think is bad a$$ man. I think it deserves your L4 though, when you get the best it deserves the best ;)

You guys who are complaining about the laws in the northeast crack me up. I'm in Denver and can't own an AR at all. Or any other of those dreaded "assault rifles" either, for that matter.

I'm hoping that changes with the McDonald decision, but I'm not holding my breath.

You can own an AR in Denver you just can't have mags that hold more than 20 rds. in Denver city or county. Check out COAR15.com.

Good looking carbine there Stag.

It's one of them funny uns that spits da brass out da wrong side (spits).

I really like the looks of the Magpul FDE stuff, but I am always afraid to stray away from the basic black.

Mine started out as a long term build but I couldn't handle it, I have impulse issues, so I sold everything that wasn't bolted down and finished it.:D

Just wait until you dabble in the 1911 cult. You'll sell the wife and kids to fund those projects.
