The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

Soooo...

I got a new job that's a pseudo promotion to NOVA and if my couple three years there is anything like my last rotation to the states I'll be doing a lot of camping. Just before I headed back to the states last time I bought my Nyala and it was and is a great knife but I'm thinking a camp knife upgrade might just make me feel better about going to the DMV. Has anyone bought and used a BackPacker and is it any real upgrade to a Nyala with a Kydex sheath?

Don’t have a Nyala to compare to, but I like everything about the BackPacker. mine is with S45VN instead of Magnacut.
The BackPacker has been the fixed blade I was wanting from CRK. It’s comfortable to use and has a good feel to it. I haven’t been excited with the other fixed blades CRK has offered, but this one checks all the boxes.
Here’s a pic along with a larger 31 for compariso.

Unreal. The USPS misrouted the package yet again to a town about 45 minutes from here. Called the local P.O. and got the rep I spoke to on Monday, (the day it was supposed to arrive), and she is going to try to contact someone at the other facility to prevent it being sent back for a third time to the distribution point in Greenville, SC.

Now I know why I never bought a 'zaan even though they tempted me all these years. It just doesn't seem like it was meant to be.

The shipping delay notwithstanding, I'm impressed by the customer service you're getting. I'd have better luck phoning the White House than getting help from my local post office.

The benefit, I suppose, of living outside of a small town...roughly 7,000 folks. Of course, it remains to be seen if she gets back to me with any info.

No kidding! He’s gotta know somebody.

Nope. I know the mail gal that delivers to me. She lives at the bottom of the hill with her husband, (a local musician), and the horses, pigs and other critters they raise on their small family farm. Nice folks.

But no, no connections at the post office in town other than calling the number I've had for it for years.

Blues Blues ferider ferider How are the thumbs guys?

Thumb's good...I haven't beat it up much. I removed the clip and put in one of the filler tabs I've had on hand for years. I like it a lot more that way. The fabric on my Duluth pants was a bit too thick for the clip, and I didn't want to bend / modify it...also, unlike my other CRKs, I didn't care for the feel of the clip.

Still getting used to where I need to position my hand to open solely with the thumb as opposed to the thumb and a wrist flick...but I'm digging the knife so far.

Gonna pick up one of Coleman's leather CRK slips for it as well. He's one of the good guys.

Great to hear. I don't know why I am so invested in your Zaan experience! I suppose when a fella likes something so much he hopes others do as well....or something like that.

I've always found the look tempting. But because of injuries to my hands and fingers over the years from sports and mishaps, I didn't know if manipulation would be an issue.

(It doesn't interfere with lifting weights, shooting or other such stuff, but a bit of nerve damage in a couple of fingers, and some joint issues in the thumb gave me pause. It does make it more cumbersome than the Sebenzas which are a breeze.)

I get it, though. I always like when my friends enjoy some of the same knives and makers as I do.

Speaking of the 'zaan, how long do the o-rings last? Do I need to have some spares on hand? Never had to think about o-rings on any of my knives. At least, not in the same manner.

Honestly Ive never actually worn a set out, of course with my history of selling and buying that makes sense. Im a spare parts kinda guy so I keep a set or two around. Ive changed them on a couple used ones Ive purchased that sound a bit more metal on metal than usual. Now the thing to remember is that they aren't actually needed on the knife and are really there just to dampen sound so....

I saw a comment that I came across recently, I don't remember by whom, or even when it was posted, that suggested that the blade could be damaged by the metal on metal contact without them.

Whether there is anything to that or not, I haven't a clue.

I remember that as well but I saw a video of time saying they just were not needed. I really like the muffled sound so I keep them .

Welp, I'm coming out of crk purchasing retirement. Decided I need a large 31 magnacut insingo with glass blasted titanium and black micarta inlays. I don't see one in stock anywhere. Would appreciate a heads up if you guys spot one.
It might be faster just buy a Magnacut Micarta Insingo and send it in for a blast. That combo could take a bit to find...
