The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

You don't need the inserts to try going clipless and see if you like carrying that way. I happened to have one on hand, but I didn't think the 'zaan looked awful without one before I installed it a few days later.

Give it a shot in the meantime.
Hmmm. I guess I should try that first. 🤔 I know I like carrying my small Sabenza in the slip in my pocket, even with the clip. But, I also kind of like the idea of giving CRK money. Are you reverse enabling here? 😂

Nah, I'm only saying that the insert makes no difference in the feel of going clipless, simply the appearance. So, try going clipless for a few days to see if you prefer it or not. That's all I'm saying. After that, you can send as much money to CRK (and me) as you like. LOL.

Yep. I understand you. And, it's good to try before committing, especially as the testing is free. Besides, it will finally get me taking some tools to my Sabenzas, which I should be doing anyway. 👍

For me I like to have a clip on my knife. With this clip, it sits a little closer to the knife and it is much more comfortable when using the knife. The original clip is really fine but I could just feel it in my hand more. The best way for me to describe it is this clip feels like it is “part” of the knife, instead of adding something just to clip it to your pocket. I don’t like the feel without a clip, it just feels a little too thin. I guess by saying totally transformed, in my opinion, it’s just a feel thing. I also like the clean look with this clip on it. I have seen a video with Tim Reeve saying he is working on a clip somewhat like this one. All just one mans opinion.

Thanks for clarifying. I can see where this might be an issue. On the standard clip, the end of the clip pushes up a little into your skin while the image you showed had the clip flat all of the way to the end. Thankfully, on both my large and small Sabenzas, the end of the clips are between my fingers, which avoids any bad pressure points. I'll need to check the Inkosi when they get here to see where the end of the clip lands with those.

might have to check one of those clips out. again the stock clip isnt bad, but ive been getting it in my head i may want to go clipless for a bit, especially if i buy another tab that actually matches the shade of the 31

I went clipless without the insert on my small 21 for a short while. For fear of losing the screw I put it back in the hole, but the bit that it stuck through the frame next to the blade bothered me for some reason I've yet to figure out (I'm one of those guys that tends to drive OCD folks a little crazy). When I moved that knife along to help finance the small 31 I currently own I kept the insert.

My CRK is the only knife I'll carry with a clip, so the insert sits in the box for now. Wintertime usually sees me dropping it right in the pocket clipless.

I'm doing this test now with my small 31. Unfortunately, putting the screw back in after taking off the clip seemed to do more than bother me. It seemed to bother the blade a little also. I didn't see any marks on the blade, but the feel when closing the blade was enough for me to take the screw back out again. I just stuck it and the clip back in the little zip lock bag; should be safe there while I experiment. Man, I really like this little thing. It seems almost perfect, but I haven't played with the Inkosi yet. 😂

Now that you guys mention it, I noticed my small 31 has a clip screw that seems to be longer than it should be. The scales for the large and small are different thicknesses, so maybe it accidently received a large scale clip screw? The screw in my large 31 (that I can't remove) is shorter than the width of the scale. It would make sense that they use one screw for both models.

It doesn't hurt anything, and even with the off-center blade, they don't touch. Seems to be a little "un-CRK-ish" though.

Edit: there is a filler tab in this knife. It's the same clip or no clip.

Thanks to the inspiration of jacobconroy75 jacobconroy75 , I decided to verify mine more closely also. On my small 31, the screw is even longer. It actually prevents the blade from closing all of the way.

And, in other news, I decided to tackle the wonky clip screw on the large 31. After grabbing the 1/4 inch WIHA set, I found that the best (tightest) fit in the screw was a 2mm. Put it in and man-handled it...and it came loose while making a screeching noise.

I think this was the problem. The hole in the clip doesn't quite match the tap.

The clip was really tight in the scale recess. I tried two other CRK OEM clips that are in the parts box. One was the same, and one fit correctly.

My best guess is that there is some variation in the milling around the top of the clip and how well it does/doesn't fit into any given scale recess?

In any case, problem solved.

I'm not worried, simply concerned about why you feel the need to put the screw back in without a clip or insert. Don't tell me...I already know....

Sigh. ☺️
The problem I run into is that I'll stash something thinking "Oh yeah I'll remember where this is" then when I need whatever it is I've stashed I can't remember where I put it.

I thought it would get better after I quit drinking, but I was soooo wrong.

Has anyone tried the Hawk collab clips on a large 31 or 21? You know, the kinda-sorta spring-loaded ones?

And, can they be had? I see them on the bay once in a while, but they go for more than a little bit of dough.

Lol I thought the exact thing!
