The kinda unspecified CRK talk thread.

Well, I caved. Bought a tanto 'zaan in the Exchange tonight. Only excuse for being a weak, weak man is that my b'day is coming up...so...I covered that base...and told my wife thank you for buying the knife I just ordered. 🥳

Mine’s coming up too. I used that excuse for three CRKs and a ZT. Guess who’ll be getting a truckload or two of coal for Christmas this year.

Oh I am watching. Problem is with the 3 I’m hunting its bound to be a long while before I come across them. Unless of course I go to a gun show with photoman12001 photoman12001

So, I can now post some additional comparison photos.

Because of the slight swedge, the tanto blade of the zaan is not quite as thick out to the tip as the tanto inkosi. I think the inkosi blade is still a fraction thicker than the zaan. The zaan jimping appears to be very close to the Sebenza jimping, though the blade feels just a fraction thicker. The slight edge chamfer makes appearances slightly deceptive. The zaan frame doesn't have the chamfers either, which makes it seem a bit thicker than the others. I don't have calipers to verify that, though.

Question: How do you remove what feels like a microscopic lube film? It happened to my small Inkosi, and now it feels like it’s on my small Sebbie, too. These are the only knives I’ve disassembled to clean and re-lube. I’ve watched the videos, and those guys never seem to get the lube where they don’t want it. Me, I can’t keep the stuff off myself. I always get at least one tiny dab on a fingertip, and from there it gets everywhere. Consequently, handling both of these knives for any period of time ends up with what feels like a smidge of the stuff that starts on the spine of the blade and feels like it’s all over my fingers before I’m done. Has this happened to anybody else? I’ve tried wiping it down with a damp sponge with a drop of dishwashing liquid, and a cleaning cloth dabbed in rubbing alcohol. The knives feel good at first, but then after a few open/closes, I feel that almost sticky residue again. It’s very slight, but I feel it.

On a side note, I can’t believe how awesomely improved the Sebbie is now after minor surgery. The action is just outstanding. Much improved on the Inkosi, too. I’m actually getting good at thumbing both of them now, almost as good as DCA in his videos. I can even finger-to-thumb them closed in one motion - I’m so proud of myself. Now when I go on a job interview and they ask me about my other pastimes, I can say that I can finger-to-thumb my Chris Reeve knives closed in a single motion. I’m sure that will impress the hell out of them. I’m also sure I won’t be going on any job interviews at this point in my life, so that’s one thing I shouldn’t have to worry about. I hope. And if I do, maybe I can apply to do those knife demo videos for KC. Imagine the percs with that job.

So anyway … While I still prefer a nice flipper, these and the Mnandi have become my favorite thumbers. Who knows, maybe they’ll make a thumbstud convert out of me some day.

I only use a total of three small dabs of grease. One between the bushing and the blade, then one on each side of the blade under the washers. Very small indeed. I do use my finger to spread them, but I then clean my finger tip with an alcohol soaked paper towel before proceeding. I suppose you could also use a Q tip to spread the lube. Make sure to get some on the detent ball track. Some guys massively over lubricate their knives.

I also don't use the crk lube. The finish line grease and 85 weight nano oil both have fine applicators to minimize the mess.
