now thats just assinine!I was thinking the same of the Macassar inlays.
Easy there this isn’t W&Cnow thats just assinine!
Mostly it has been food prep, cutting up fruit as well as some steaks the other night.Been wanting a fixed blade in the size of a Nyala or Backpacker! I just don't want to pay reseller fees... I have one on order, so patience is key for me. What uses do you see the Nyala getting?
Well you can't just say that and not tell me the story!
Small 31 in MagnaCut. My black micarta inlay Sebenza has been my workhorse for about the past year, but I recently got a MagnaCut 31 plain handle version (polished blade though) and I do really enjoy the slightly slimmer plain handles in my shorts pocket. Now that it’s heating up, what are you all carrying? Been wearing shorts at home more often, so the Small Inkosi has been seeing most of my carry. If I have a BBQ, the Large Inkosi is going to be my companion!
I feel the same way about the Inkosi Insingo although prefer the large. My favorite CRK with beautiful hydraulic buttery action like every Inkosi I’ve ever owned .Been really liking both the Large and Small Inkosi in Insingo blades. Really have been having a hard time finding any want for another knife as of late. A strange feeling for me. One day a Mnandi will be in my possession. However, I don't think I would carry it more often than my Small or Large Inkosi. The Large has done every task I've needed it to do, and more. Cutting up strawberries, salads, food, cutting boxes, packaging, whittling a little... It's easy to see why people like the Insingo so much. I was put off by it because the drop point looks visually better, but after using it I much prefer it to the drop point. Maybe not a great knife for skinning game or gutting a fish, but pretty much good for anything else.
You always know when you are satisfied with your knives when you start looking at multi-tools and flashlights etc!
Oh yeah, my favorite is the large. The small just gets carried more due to it’s size. If I could only keep one it would be the large.I feel the same way about the Inkosi Insingo although prefer the large. My favorite CRK with beautiful hydraulic buttery action like every Inkosi I’ve ever owned .
Probably not that important. I appreciate the increased corrosion resistance, toughness, and edge retention of Magnacut in theory. In practice, I don’t really do enough on a day to day basis to tell the difference, even between Magnacut and S35VN.Small 31 in MagnaCut. Is the MagnaCut part really that important? I'm a steel nerd and definitely like the stuff, but before that I had no problem with CRKs with S45VN.
Impressive. You may like the Nyala over the Backpacker in time. It’s a discontinued model, the handles seem to be wider and more rounded. It most likely will become fairly sought after like pretty much all discontinued CRK in time. The Backpacker and the Inyoni may become fairly common as the years go on, depending on how long the lifespan of each model is.Mostly it has been food prep, cutting up fruit as well as some steaks the other night.
The other day I wascutting wood shims for target stands at the range.
I cut up quite a bit of rope this week getting the pontoon boat ready to go for the season and putting up new dock lines.
Earlier today I was shaving off some wood making some fire starters.
I stropped it up two times throuout the week and it's still pretty sharp.
I would still take the Backpacker over it, but it's a great tool that's equally adept at heavy and light duty tasks.
Eh yeah magnacut is ideal for pocket knives. I don’t think that high hrc would do as well on a chopper. Probably need a lower heat treat. But most people don’t use their knives enough to tell a difference between the steels on a folder. I still use a lot of traditionals in 1095Probably not that important. One note I can say is that Magnacut does seem to stop and sharpen easier than S45VN in my experience. Also it holds a finer edge better than both S35VN and S45VN, which both seem to prefer a toothier medium grit edge.
I think for a pocket knife you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. Maybe if you were cutting paracord and batoning logs all day you would be able to tell the difference. For normal use, I think even S30V from back in the day of CRK would work great.
It’s funny how once a knife is discontinued they become popular. I remember when the Nyala came out and it would just sit on shelves.Impressive. You may like the Nyala over the Backpacker in time. It’s just like any art. Once the maker stops making it, it puts a cap on the number that exist, giving it more of a defined value. Unlike the US dollar…It’s funny how once a knife is discontinued they become popular. I remember when the Nyala came out and it would just sit on shelves.
I dunno, those de-fragged 'zaans are pretty sporty looking...This was at the CRK booth today down at Blade Show as part of a lottery drawing. On the left is a Sebenza 31 in African Blackwood. The other two are plain Umnumzaans. What do you guys think? I like the 31 in African Blackwood.![]()
Agreed they looked great!I dunno, those de-fragged 'zaans are pretty sporty looking...

Man with your collection you already won!The blade and lock side on the 31 was DLC as well. It was maybe the smoothest 31 I’ve ever held. It had the new MIM clip as well. Too bad I didn’t win haha
Fair fair! HahaMan with your collection you already won!
