The King gets remodeled

The Fighting 9 is about 80% complete. The handle was made from the walnut stump and the guard was made from the bar of nickel/silver

Wow! That came out friggin awesome. Doesn't look anything like the original knife. Damn fine work there...

Don't know how I overlooked this. That is outstanding work. Everything looks spot on to me. Excellent chioce of materials, craftmanship looks second to none. Well done.

I had recently acquired a used BK9 that I was going to do a crazy mod on that has been on my mind for a while. But once it got here, my 9 yr. Old son liked it so much he begged me for it. He is a good boy and always helpfull so I couldn't tell him no. He's already used it (under my supervision of coarse) helping me with yard/landscaping work. But after seeing this. I'll have to find antoher one for the gurny.

Absolutely incredible work my friend. If you have another 9, a side by side photo is always cool.

Mr. Hunt, I never thought a professional knifemaker would even look at a customized knife. You did and also took the time to respond via your craftsman's eye. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.
When I first saw your customized BK5 I was determined to go full tilt boogie on the Fighting 9. I have other blades to finish and then some 5160 and 1095 has been pestering me to become choppers of my own design.
Know that it is craftsmen like you that have been teaching the rest of us on this forum through your body of work.

Thanks. That's awesome man. Incredible seeing the difference side by side.

Well, that's probably the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. Thanks. But let it be known that I am nobody special. I'm just another knife nut just like everybody else on this forum. If I was to consider myself a professional at anything, it would probably be beer drinking and screwing off:D I do feel lucky that I have been blessed with ability to work with my hands. But to see your projects, obviously, so have you. The beauty of knifemaking to me is that the excitement starts over with every knife. Each one is different, and each one is rewarding in different ways. I've never made a knife to please anyone but myself. The fact that other people appreciate what I do is just a added bounus. Your well on your way my friend. Let me know if you need any help with your personal projects. Heat treating, materials, sheaths etc. Would be happy to help. Keep up the good work.

Your kind words overwhelm me. We share the same creative philosophy, and by the way, I too am a professional beer drinker.

...........trying desperately...to lift...my jaw....off...the....floor.....

There are no superlatives left. Thank you also for the inspiration - this thread and project are like a forge bellows blowing on all those sparks of ideas waiting for their time on the anvil...

Whatever this knife started out as, it has been transmogrified by your creative vision into something entirely different. Thank you for showing us your art.

Been following this thread and I have to say that Hawk, your patience, attention to detail and overall craftsmanship is staggering. I could never dream of making something as cool and refined as this 9. Keep up the amazing work man .

Your work is amazing, and better by far than any mod I could do. I wish it was mine.

OK, here's where the question arises. Is it still a BK9, or is it a custom knife made from a BK9 blade? Kind of so different from the original blade that it seems to be a different knife all together with the exception of the stamps.

Thanks for your compliments. I enjoy customizing knives and I do not put my work in the custom knife category. The craftsmen who make knives from scratch such as Todd Hunt, Nick Wheeler, Will Morrison and others too numerous to mention, are men who have been influencing me for a few years. Since I retired a year ago, I am now able to pursue my hobbies. My wife is very supportive and has been urging me to make my design drawings into knives, so at some point in the near future, I will be making knives and not just modifying some one else's knife design.
