The King gets remodeled

Hi Cam, Always good to hear from you. Thanks for your kind thoughts about my work. My late Dad and Grandpop were the men who taught me to pay attention to what I was doing and take my time.

This is an epic mod for sure. Thanks for posting up your progress on this 9. Always fun to see a project evolve. Seems to be turing into a true gentleman's fighter :)

Hello worldwood, cOLD, and Eero, The Fighting 9 won't be leaving my side anytime soon. I have infinite patience for my projects. Other than that, just ask my wife. The evolution of these project is slow due to the "surprises" I find under the coating. Removing the dings and tool marks make up the bulk of the work that must be done to achieve a flawless satin finish on the blade. This is the main reason I have decided to make knives of my own design. That way I am responsible for everything from the raw state to the finished piece. I still have four pieces, three non Becker and one Becker to complete and then set up a basic shop. One essential besides patience is to study the work of the craftsmen who's work you admire. Not to copy, but to learn the process and the attention to detail these masters bring to each project. In an earlier post I mentioned the work of three men I admire for their dedication to the craft. They have inspired me to "go for it".

Right? You'll be surprised how easy it is to put dings into your project yourself though, and how hard it is to get rid of them. I'm having a devil of a time with my swords.

Are you planning on making a sheath for it?

Been there and done that with dings, I used nickel silver for the guard. I had it completed, dropped it and I had fun putting things right again.
I don't do leatherwork. Skystorm made the sheath for my customized BK7 and I will go back to him for the 9.

hawk, your work is absolutely outstanding and it is the mark of a true craftsman - attention to detail. When you first mentioned doing a hidden tang 9 I had trouble trying to picture it... and you have done it! and in an absolutely beautiful way. Kudos, man. As an aspiring maker myself, I will eagerly await to see your own creations.

Remarkable work,truly piece of art.

Tell me,is it possible for the ordinary mortal to achieve that satin finnish with just sand papers and nothing else ?

Thank you for looking and positive comments.
Yes. I used 3M wet or dry WD40 with 220, 320, and 400. Next, I took used 600 and black compound and finished with used 600 and green compound with a spritz of WD40 on the blade. When using the 600 and compound sand in one direction only and always be certain to back you paper with a block.

Absolutely outstanding! Job well done.

Can you post a picture on end down the spine? I'd really like to see a top view.

Thanks for the compliment. I will post better pics tomorrow. The ones I posted this evening are dark and do not show the true walnut color.
