The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Eh, I dunno.... They kinda remind me of those body kits guys used to put on Fieros to make em look like Ferraris. I mean, after they put all that money and work into it, they could've bought a nice Camaro or Mustang....

It's sort of the same deal. By the time you buy the grip and order the scales, you could have bought something else in that price range.

I'd only do it if you reeeeeally love the Griptilian.

Idk, I think they might have a bit of a roughed up finish to them. That would be plenty of traction for a knife like this.

Good point. That's why Ive never really done something like this before.

But I think it's different this time around. This knife is nearly PERFECT for Edc...... except for the scales. It's got a ritter blade, m390 steel, and a Contego deep carry clip. All it needs is the scales.....

I get your point though. The total cost will end up being well over 200, but I think it might just be worth it. Think about it this way. In the $200 price range, first of all there isn't much that I like, and second, a 940-1 with cf and s90v is around the same price that this knife will finally come out to. And anyway, I've kinda promised myself that I wouldn't buy any one knife that went over 200 unless it was a sebenza. I guess it's just a mental thing like tricking my brain into thinking I'm spending less than I really am:D

But I think it's time for me to move into a "quality over quantity" phase. Like stop buying so many knives and instead start focusing on pimping the ones I already have and saving up for better and pricier knives.

If you really like the grip, go for it! You'll like it even more with the scales.

So I was thinking of biting the bullet and getting a set of keyman's cf scales for my mini grip...115 shipped...... Ouch! But I REALLY like them. Thoughts? Anyone else buy from him?

I say go for it. Keyman is a good dude and he does great work.

Ok, I'm waiting for a reply from keyman.

I think they're gonna look really sexy:thumbup:
I'm saving towards getting some CF scales for my BM 5000 from him. He has a huge catalogue of scales done, all really good looking. I'm stoked to see for myself when I can. Too close to another DT Sebenza to buy right now.

Just got the 801 in, did all the work immediately. Pitted scales, anodized gold lock side, front scale bronze with violet highlights, sharpened up, and gave it a lanyard. Cool knife so far

Thanks guys, this thing is an animal! I think I might have to get a black wash one to do another handle color, but no pitting on that one.

I took a break from mine for the past couple weeks, but now I'm carrying it again. I think the Contego's size has put it into perspective for me! Now it's not too big at all! :D

That it most probably has. The Contego is pretty big. The 801 is actually moderate but the blade is just so broad that it feels bigger than it is.

On another note, my Umnumzaan is in its way, should get here tomorrow. Super stoked!

So my Umnumzaan came in and I love it! I thought I would share my collection with you guys so far. All of these are mine except for the one on top and the mini grip.

Nice collection:thumbup:

On the topic of the scales, I went ahead put my name on keyman's list of customers. He says he'll make me the exact same scales, but at the moment he's got like 9 others before me, so the turn around time is something like 8 weeks.

Grrrr. Why do good things always take so much time??!!! :grumpy:

I guess I'm just spoiled by amazons same day shipping thing :p:rolleyes:
