^^^If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit!

I have that exact same knife. I bought it when I was about 13, and carried it until I was around 22. Mine is all beat to hell. Tarnished brass, can't even see the blade etch anymore, and been sharpened so many times it's got a pronounced recurve. Here it is next to my well used Sere 2K:

Apparently nobody likes my thread:grumpy::p

Page 5? Seriously?! Haha

So does anyone have any news? Yesterday I went ahead and sharpened the Contego. I gave it the full process rather than just a touch up on the sharp maker like I've been doing since I got it. I'm still very surprised by these stones. Even m4 taps out after a few minutes:thumbup:

I have a dilemma....

I want to strip the coating off of my CS Recon Mini's blade. However, I only have the torx bit for the small screws. I can't find a single bit for sale in the size I need, I lost my kit, and I'm too cheap to buy a single driver or a new kit just to take one knife apart to strip it.

I might just try to strip it with the blade in the knife. I don't care about removing the coating that doesn't show (that's covered by the scales). I actually don't want to anyway, just to leave some corrosion protection on there.

So, there ya go.... I just don't feel like buying a $15 set of bits to work on a $30 knife. Now if I had a few different knives to take apart, I'd spring for the kit. But I don't.

Caved on the I only buy US thing and bought these. Couldn't find any domestic fully serrated besides microtech. Nothing wrong with MT.

I've been using a 6 dollar kit I got on the large South American river retailer, and it hasn't let me down yet. So are you going to sandpaper the blade? I took the coating off my cs srk with sandpaper about a year ago and it came out looking pretty cool. Almost has like a tarnished look to it now

I think I'm gonna try a razor blade on it first. The coating on these Recons is like latex house paint. I can scrape it off with my fingernail in some places. Really, it sucks pretty bad.

I wonder why they even coat em at all? Why not just leave it stonewashed?

That SRK looks cool! I've done that to a few blades and I always like the way it looks.

Couple of things worthy of mentioning today. I had my ZT0801 a week before I traded it. Was going for another 801 in blackwash so I could color it up fancy, but ended up trading for a Protech/Emerson CQC-7A with a stonewash blade and cf inlays. I have no interest in this CQC, I just traded because carbon fiber. Lol.

Next thing, the world could not be any smaller. Responding to a thread in the CRK sub (pretty much the only place I post outside of Auto's and General), a dude on there says he lives in China. Big country, TONS of people. I ask where he lives and it turns out he lives RIGHT where I spent the majority of my summer weekends while working in Beijing. Im headed back to Beijing in a few months and will be in his town every weekend. People meet up on forums all the time but usually, in their respective cities, states, or countries. It blows my mind that I'm going to have the chance to take some Sebenza pictures, on the Great Wall, with a fellow BF member, all because I asked where in China he lives and it just so happens that he lives in a place I've spent a lot of time in. We're talking about a REALLY small town over here too! Small. World.

I guess they think black paint makes it more tactical:rolleyes:

I agree. It's probably the worst coating I even seen

Ahhhh. Much better:

All it took was a little grease of the elbow, and a razor blade.

I was cutting some grass for a blind this weekend and I nailed my thumb with my CRKT Dragon. I had to get back to my truck while bleeding all over the stinkin' place, now the wound opens up at the slightest movement and bleeds profusely everywhere. I had that dang thing sharp. But I want to get it sharper. Gotta invest in a new sharpener anyway.

Nice job, antdog. You practically mirror polished it! AND WITH A RAZOR BLADE:eek:
You ARE a blade ninja!:D

'Yeah so guys I think I'll take the coating off the blade of my knife.'

'All done!' *presents a near-mirror finished blade*

'Woah! Looks great, man! Did you use sandpaper and buffing compound?'

'Am I a sandpaper and buffing compound enthusiast? Hell no. I used a razor blade'

:D

Tyronethepro, that SUCKS. Ive only cut myself badly a few times, but I remember it always ruined my day when it happened.

Wasn't too much of a day ruiner, I found out how good I am at tracking blood trails at least! Had to get back to my blind spot to see what I had left, and I followed my own blood trail right to it without looking up once

Hahaha!!! You're too much, brother!

It's not all that shiny! In person it looks all covered in tiny scratches (it's stonewashed). All the high polished parts you see reflecting is just from cutting stuff! That's just where the coating wore off first and the stonewash got burnished. Well, that, and it's just a typical crappy picture!

If there's one thing I could toot my own horn for it would be how fast I got it done. It literally took about 5 minutes.

Ok noob question, I see a lot of guys stonewashing and anodizing and etching their knives, do any of you guys know how to do it or can you direct me to a site that shows how to do it?

Also, how does one go about stonewashing a blade?

On another topic, I got my Delica 4 back from a friend and he took a good chip out if the blade, gonna take a while to repair :(

I anodize every single anodized knife that I post, and offer anodizing services. Shoot me a PM and I'd be happy to teach you how to do it, and how to do it right, from prep work, to finished results. I can stone wash as well, all it takes is a tumbler, and the right media, but the knifemakers and true modifiers would be the right guys to ask about that in greater detail.
