The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Oh, pretty good doesn't begin to describe it.... I'm in love. It is simply the distillation of a well thought out design, made real through excellent craftsmanship.
Looks really sweet dude! Hell of a Christmas for you huh? Enjoy man, glad you're stoked on the new piece. It looks great with the bare ti orange peel.

Oh yeah Harris! Definitely Merry Christmas to me for sure! And I agree - I think the handle goes very well with the blade. I may still hit you up for what we were talking about, but I think I'm gonna "knock the new off her" first....

Well, did Santa stop by anyone's house yet? What did y'all get?!

bought myself the small micarta insingo ive been posting, the DMT diasharp set, and a silver alox vic Solo, then the old lady got me a leather jacket and some new shoes.

Wow guys, been a bit! I love to see the spirit of giving in SadSappy and Krissig. Well done gentlemen! I've been a little out of the thread lately, been working, but two things for me lately: one awesome and one horrible.

The first, a gift to myself, after saving for a good long time:

Also, this happened... I was cutting some thick zip ties and....

Didn't get much this year, other than the early sebenza present. Oh well

It was a nice clear day so I decided to "take a hike";)

This is a shot I took from about halfway up the hill. It doesn't show up very well because of my crappy camera, but you can just make out the Californian coast if you look past downtown (it's the shiny bit at the horizon).

Oh and to make this knife related, I had my ESEE 4 and lil stabby with me:D

Nice view!

I have a nice little Christmas story...

I gave my best buddy a CQC-8K. He loves it! I think he waved it open a couple hundred times the day I have it to him. It even bit him pretty good when he was trying to close it one time.

He gave me an Aspire carbon fiber variable voltage vape. A little backstory - I smoked from about age 15 until I was 25. I quit that year because my son was born, and I had an "epiphany" one night. I just decided I'd really like to be around to see him grow up. I tapered down until I was ok with 2 a day, then quit cold turkey on Christmas Eve of that year. It took an iron will and was very difficult to turn them all the way loose.

I started smoking again when I started working at a job where my coworkers all smoked. It was a brutal night shift, long hours, high stress. I basically peer pressured myself into starting again. I was 33 when I started smoking again.

I decided I was going to give the vape an honest shot. I finished up the cigarettes I had, and started using it. Result? Day 3 and no cigarettes! I have absolutely zero desire to smoke. I'm amazed at how easy it was to make the switch. It's much better than smoking, and cheaper! My doctor has been trying to get me to try one every time I see him.

More money for knives! And I'll get to be around to enjoy them longer.

I'm glad my friend enjoys the knife I gave him, but I feel like he literally gave me my life back. I feel so blessed this Christmas!

Congrats AntDog! That's an amazing Christmas story:thumbup:

My Dad still smokes unfortunately. I've been trying for years to get him to stop because I know it's only a matter of time before something bad happens. We've tried to get him into things like E-cigarettes, but he never really liked them enough to make the switch. I hate the thought of giving up, but at this point I don't know what else to do. He has to find it within himself like you did.

I started a job about 8 months ago. and it was the first structured office type job I've ever had with the whole clock in/ clock out, only 2 breaks a day kind of b.s. The only other jobs I've had were construction and had the freedom to smoke whenever I wanted. So by the time my lunch break hit I raced to the nearest store to pick one of those vape things up, and like you said, other then the craving for the actual act of smoking, I no longer needed to smoke. Unfortunately cigarettes won out, and I'm back doing construction smoking more than ever. But yeah, I was also surprised they worked as good as they did.
Another thing I never gave credit too until I tried it were the patches. I had just came out of a 3(or maybe 2 or maybe 4...) day black out and ended up in the hospital. About a day or so in I was wondering why I didn't want a cigarette. Apparently they slipped a patch on me when I was admitted(still kinda fuzzy at the time), so I decided to stay on the patch once I was let go. I made it about 2 weeks total until smokes won out again. The problem I had with the patches was that if you fell asleep with them on you would get the weirdest halucinations/dreams. It didn't take me long to figure out to take them off 30mins or so before I whent to sleep.
The problem was I never truly wanted to quit. But even though I still smoking almost 2 packs a day I count myself pretty lucky. I'm 24 now, and it's been just over 2 years since I have touched a drug or drink. At the rate I was going it would've taken me out long before cigarettes.
Congratulations though and I wish you the best of luck.

I have no intention of turning this awesome thread into a "quitting smoking thread", so this is all I'll say - sadsappysucker, give a quality vape a shot. I found that the ones that didn't put out enough vapor (and thus, nicotine) did nothing for me, so right back to smoking.

And Krissig, I'd recommend picking up a setup for your father like my buddy gave to me. It is perfect for quitting smoking. He has 6 months under his belt, and even though I only have 3 days under mine, I know I'm DONE with cigarettes. No desire for them at all. The setup he got me was only $60 or so, and it just may save his life. (But, like you said, he's got to want it. And he's got to be willing to try it) I sincerely thank you for the congrats! I feel like I've finally got the monkey off my back.

Ok, back to the knife life! Like I mentioned, I gave my buddy a CQC-8K. I also gave my brother a large Queen trapper (limited edition made for Kansas Knife Collectors Association - we both grew up in Kansas), I also gave my wife a CQC-6K with black blade. She loves it! It's just slightly bigger than her Rat 2, and she loves the ergonomics, and the black blade.

Me, I got my awesome new custom framelock, so I'm more than set to enter the new year with a new quality blade!

Yep, it was a shocker to me too. It is pretty awesome. The second I saw it, I knew it'd be perfect for her. A little bigger than her current carry (which she wanted), but still not too large. Plus the black blade like she wanted? Into the cart it went.

I know by now you can all take me at my word, but pictures are so much more fun!

Believe it or not, the only thing holding me back on buying the 6K for her was the lack of a black blade. I jumped on it, and she loves it.
