The Knife Life (Minor Topics and Random Stuff Thread)

Just got back from the lake and landed my first Large Mouth Bass. 4 of them actually! The mini grip took care of all the cutting tasks for the morning. Worked like a champ!

Finacee came home from class and asked me to sharpen her knife (Kershaw Volt SS). Thought it was odd since I stropped it up last night so I asked why. She shows me this...

"There were some staples in a canvas I needed to take out." Hngggggggg. This is why I got her a small pry multi-tool for her keychain, which she had forgotten about...

Oh well, whattaya gonna do? At least she's using the knife! I think it's pretty cool when my wife hands me her knife and it's all full of dings. Makes me proud. I sharpen it up and she puts it right back in her pocket.

That's what I'm doing right now haha. Gives me some sharpening practice at least lol

Absolutely - way to look at the bright side. I think it sucks a lot worse when they just throw em in their purse and forget em. Then they find it in there all covered with hair and gum and makeup. Blech

I hate the days there is a lot of sticky stuff that needs cutting! Had to trim a bunch of double sided foam tape today.

Dish soap and water will usually take that right off. If it doesn't, use acetone. It won't hurt the blade, but it may melt some coatings.
So, what's up fellow knife-lifers?
I've finally got my ducks in a row to start making some knives. Got supplies down, heat treat down, even got a maker's mark down... Just trying to find a break in work and "life" and it'll happen.

I am very interested to see an Antdog design, you have outstanding taste in production knives from what I have seen.

Wow I haven't seen this thread in forever! Will, it's great to hear your finally getting ready to make some knives. Let us all know how it goes.

I haven't done much knife buying recently. Kinda settled on the ones I like by this point. But I did sell a few off the other day to thin down the colllection. I'll be shipping off to Denver in less than a month for college, and I'm not sure I want to bring a massive collection with me for my roommates to either be freaked out by or tempted to steal. I think I'll just bring a few. Oh and in other news, my custom is still not done......can you believe that?? Ugh....well I guess I'll just have to hope it's done before summer is. Haven't heard from Dario in a while.

Anyway stay safe guys, and have a great rest of the summer:thumbup:

Thanks for the tip Antdog, I have been using alcohol wipes lately that are doing a decent job. I am looking forward to seeing what you design when you start making knives! Krissig, you can just have him ship that custom to me, you know, for safekeeping. :p

Dude, you know I'm gonna need to get one of your blades. Home team, baby!

Kris - been a while eh? Good luck in school! Just keep your nose to that grindstone, while I keep my fingers to mine. :)

No problemo, it'll work for tape and sticky stuff. Looks like a few people are looking forward to it, and that's great motivation!

You know it John! I'll hook you up brotherman. :D
Sorry for so many damn posts in a row fellas! I can't figure out how to multiquote in tapatalk.

Hey everyone, just thought you might like to know the custom finally came in today. I absolutely LOVE it. Will, I'm pretty sure this is the kind of knife that would seem like a toy to you, but I find the size to be perfect. I'll get some pics up when I get a chance.

You know, once I'm physically able to put it down:D

Hey, I'm glad he finally got done with it! Post a few pics if you can - those things are beautiful! What kind of sheath did you get?

Leather belt sheath, same as my dads. The knife about the same size as my small sebenza overall, but maybe a tiny bit smaller. The smaller size fits my hand PERFECTLY, whereas the ergos on the scaled up version I got my dad were a little bit off for my hand. Keep in mind this smaller size was actually in the original design, so it makes sense that it would be a little off when the knife is scaled up.

It cuts really well because I didn't go too thick with it, and Dario put a seriously wicked edge on it. The cf on this one is contoured the whole way around as opposed to the scales on the larger version, which were just rounded at the edges. It has Elmax at 61-62 instead of N690co at 58, and I had him do a horizontal brushed satin finish and a short run of gimping. Other than that, the knives are pretty similar. Kept the tapered tang and red liners that my dads had, and the same SS pin construction.

The pictures just don't do it justice, it's such a cool little fixed blade. I think I'll be able to carry it in Denver, and I might even have some kydex made for it to set it up as a neck knife.

Man, I haven't checked this thread in a while. Ant, I'm glad to hear your knife making venture is becoming a reality. I can't wait to see em! Krissig, good luck with school. Don't get to many drunk and dissorderly charges. They add up quick(trust me). And lastly, that custom came out great! That is quite a pair yall have there.
