The Les George Knives Thread

Day 18: Thermal Thursday

Trying to bring a little bit of heat today with one of my favorite pieces: a DLT 12 Days of Christmas VECP with a hand ground Intrepid Damascus blade. Ray from Cap City Creations, who I believe to be the best scale modifier in the business, did a number of cosmetic modifications to it including hand bark texturing the scales. I put a Steel Flame Crusader clip on it because the oxidation of the vintage gun metal finish matches up perfectly with the blade.

Oof, I could look at the knife for days. Between the blade, mods, and clip…. How much texture did the bark texturing add? I like the stoned mod on my Servo but am looking for something more aggressive should I come across another knife with plain scales.

Day 19: Non-Flipper Friday.

Wanted to show some love to the Morph MK3 today. Still think this is one of the finest Morph patterns Les has created. But man is the new Morph Talos sweet 🤩🤤

As usual, if I’m gonna carry another knife, it’s gonna be a Hinderer. This XM is a personal favorite.

Happy Friday Y’all - hope it’s a great one 🤘💯

Ray really does incredible work. I've been trying to get on his books for the last year, but have been 0 for 4 in his lottery drawings. I was fortunate to pick this piece up from someone who already had it done. The texturing is definitely more than cosmetic as it has a great feel in hand. ccsmith449 ccsmith449 handled it the other day and I remember he remarked about how nice the grip was in person. Way of Knife has a number of laser grip options that are less expensive and a lot more attainable. I'll post a picture of what I had done to my plain scale ESV as soon as I get it back so you can see if lasering is something you'd be interested in.

There is currently an FM-1 on the trading forum, but I feel compelled to provide some context on that piece.

I contacted Les about it because it had some elements that no other FM-1 I'd seen before had. Les was kind enough to get back to me on it and provide the full history. Essentially, it is a Les George knife, but it was one he made as a gift to his mentor and it is in rough condition mechanically. In Les's own words, "it kinda sucked". Because Les never sold the knife, and because of the way it ended up in the hands of the public (sold at a yard sale after his mentor passed away, then flipped on eBay), he won't work on it at all. Personally, I wouldn't want a knife that Les wasn't proud of or wouldn't warranty, especially if it wasn't mechanically up to his standards.

That being said, it has a neat history to it and could conceivably be fixed up by someone talented enough. I just wouldn't trade for it thinking it was at all like a typical custom that he does. I thought our group here should know those things before anyone jumped on it.

I just messaged the seller and provided these details along with the screenshots of my conversation with Les. It's very possible he didn't know the history as who knows how many hands it's passed through since that yard sale. Hopefully he will update the post as I think these factors ought to be disclosed to any potential buyer/trader.

Oh yeah... the texturing is phenomenal in hand. Definitely a special piece :)

Day 19: Frag Friday!

Since Charlie is taking a short break from posting his MEFP MK3, I'll happily pick up the baton. I owe a debt of gratitude to the wonderful vt_jimmay vt_jimmay for being kind enough to offer me this piece when he saw that I just missed the drop (thanks, baby monitor duty!). The fact that it arrived on leap year day is a special bit of serendipity that I will not forget. I really love frag, which not many Les pieces have, so I am absolutely thrilled to have this in my collection.

It is very tempting to just set that picture as my desktop background. Gorgeous stuff, as always.

They keep pulling me back in. No matter what else I try, I seem to keep returning to the classic P's.

I won't publicly divulge how many I own....(and yeah, I just bid on another...) 🤣
I had a P6, a west german 226, and a .40 239 at one point, I still miss that 226. It was a stainless slide black frame. I wouldn't mind to pick up a 232 at some point, and maybe a 224 😂
