Looking forward to the pics and reviews.

Okay, to be honest, I'm going to read the reviews with mild interest just so I can see the pics! So many gorgeous entries. . . thanks to all you craftsman who slaved and sweated to share the fruit of your labors with the community!

Great pic Psy!

I can't stress enough how great this whole experience has been. I learned something from every single maker, commenter and tester in this whole deal! No one who entered a knife "failed" in this Challenge. Thanks for letting me be a small part of it!

I'm in for the next W&SS maker challenge.

my dad col defender was the lucky judge who went home with your knife. He is on cloud nine and is going to post pics ect later. He is sleeping right now im sure :d

thanks glad to finally here who got it,i didnt make it fancy like my norm,i made a plain ole user, hope he enjoys it.should be very easy to maintain on the strop, black side about 30 times the the green side the same should be good to go!!thanks buddy

My inside man just confirmed that my knife chipped out beyond sharpening. I WAS SET UP, I TELL YA.... SET UP! :p

I'm actually kinda surprised I can make a knife with a fine/hard enough edge to chip! Kitchen knives, here I come! I brought this knife down to a zero grind before putting a final convex edge on it. But I did test and inspect the entire edge with a jeweler's loupe before sending it out, so no excuses. I wonder just how bad it ended up and whether it at least sliced well enough. Damn, it looked good though!

Rick

Hey man, check you're email. And yes, it really did look damn good!

Failures isn't a accurate term here Thorny. Like James said. There where 16 knives all by makers that had the balls to send a knife that they worked hard on to in some cases a complete stranger basically so they could learn more about there product. It was great to see all of the different knives and different thought processes and hear of different tecniques, and I too am just as excited as all of you guys to hear the results. Since I had a knife in the challenge they wouldn't let me participate (as it should be) but I was able to handle them and talk to a few other makers. Its great to finally handle blades by makers you've admired here on the forums for some time. Really learned a lot.

Let me clarify, because I can see how what I said could be misinterpreted. I would love to see what tasks caused the few knives that had issues to have them.
All of the makers that submitted entries know what they are doing, and some of them it would probably be fair to call them real pros, so I am interested in seeing what tasks could push those blades past their breaking point.
That knowledge will help me in the field, deciding what I can and cant, or should and shouldn't do with a blade, depending on what the blade I am carrying is. IE If my only knife is a slicer, the tasks that it can hold up to without damage, or if my knife is an axe, what camp chores it still might be capable of. You know, that sort of thing. I didn't mean to sound as if I was implying that any of the makers had failed.
I am actually blown away that so many people would send so much hard work to the challenge to be used and abused by the heads. Its a real testament to this community, and those makers.

Man, this looks like it was fun. Its the first I've heard of this contest or I'd have entered. I need to spend more time on the forums I guess. LOL. Good luck guys. I love user contests. Thats how you learn a lot about your process.

I'm with you bkduckworth. I just couldn't finish in time but here is my proof of getting one done. At least this one already has a nice home to go to.

Can't wait to hear about this one- looks very handy!

What's the handle material?

Unfortunately you won't hear much because I didn't get it done in time to ship out. I will make sure I'm in the next one though. Sems like a great learning experience. The handles are black burlap over orange g10.

Ahhh..that's a shame...and also and example of what happens when I skim too quickly!

Great looking knife!

It sounds like you guys gave those knives a good work out! I must be a big job testing, scoring, and doing a write up for 16 blades - a big thanks to all the volunteers!

Let me just say that the fact that you gave your knife away after the challenge goes way beyond high class in my book good sir. Plus the fact that The Col. won it in the drawing was just the icing on the cake. It couldnt of gone to a better person. Aside from all of his other great qualities, The Col. has helped support a lot of starving knifemakers including myself. He was very happy to recieve it but not as happy as everyone else was that he won it. Great stuff man!
