The Official Lanyard Thread

Here's the new bead on the MP1 surrounded by a pair of diamond knots in diamond-pattern blue/black 550 cord. I'll find a knife for the thong that was on it back at #97. I'm lovin' this knife and the bead is just icing on the cake. Great way to start the second hundred posts here on the Official Lanyard Thread.

Very late edit: These are actually crown-and-diamond knots.

halden.doerge halden.doerge , can you point me to a place where I can learn to tie that mini-monkey fist? The lanyard in my 'Zaan is screaming for one!

I never used to be into these, until recently tied one for my Reate Epoch and now appreciate them. Here is my attempt - Reate Epoch with a monkey fist and one of my custom machined bronze beads (gotta work on my paracord/knot skills):

halden.doerge halden.doerge , you're only in a rut if you feel like you are. I get that way sometimes as my incessant use of snake knots can lead to feelings of sameness. Little things break it up like varying the number and arrangement of knots and adding new ones. New paracord helps too.

Different beads add a lot and they can come from lots of sources. There are some decent ones to be found at the big river site ranging from ti beads in multi-packs in the 5 for $20 range up to $20+ each for nicer singles. Many knife makers have their versions and I have beads from Olamic, Hinderer, and Shiro, though they can be pricey. There are makers that specialize in beautifully machined beads like Maverick Workshop, though they're on the spendy side too. A great source for "found" objects are the loose hardware drawers at your local store--plumbing, lamp, and other parts make interesting add-ons for lanyards--and there are several examples of those and other beads going back through this thread.

Thanks for imbedding Solos' video above. There are lots available for that knot, but most don't take into account that you're tying with a knife hanging off the other end. That definitely changes things.

Lastly, of your 4 CRK lanyards above at least 3 look like 550 cord and appear to be through the lanyard pins. Did you bore them out or just gut the cord end and force it through?

Neither, they at ungutted and fit through the original holes. It's kinda tricky, but if you cut the end of your cord on a diagonal and melt it just a bit do it hangs together, you can get it through.

And yeah, I am starting to eye more beads...

The Worker and the Boss over at the shop today while I'm trying to reorganize my space. Both have recently re-done tails, are of course dealer exclusives, and feature their dealer signature beads . The KnifeArt CF 21 had urban camo 550 cord not long ago, but it didn't take long for the white portion to get dirty on the job. I just changed out the Wilson Combat StarTac from its factory lanyard. I've taken to removing the lanyard pins from CRKs and like my tails longer and floppier so I just go through the vacated holes with 550 cord. The WC bead is pretty small, so I used a single snake knot for a starter so it wouldn't look so lost and undersized.

After seeing all the cool stuff on here I had to redo the lanyard on the Epoch. Updated with a monkey fist, bronze bead, and snake knot. Much better!

I haven't been that enamored with this 425 cord I've had for a while. My wife likes the bright colors and has been cutting pieces to tie up her tomato plants. I've had this butterfly bead for a while too and couldn't figure out which Benchmade to grace with it, so I figured I'd combine the two and a couple crown-and-diamond knots on my DOAT CF-scaled 707 Sequel that was today's carry.

Dammit I want that knife. Looking good.
Thanks, B.45! I never thought about buying a slipjoint until BM came out with this and a few guys started posting pics of theirs here. Definitely fits in for a small second or city/travel carry. Now I want the red one too!
