The Official Lanyard Thread

AhQnw4A.jpg

I wanted neck cord/lanyard that hides the ends of the cords and doesn't have the messy looking double fisherman knot at the neck. Got myself bead for that purpose and to spice up the package of course. :)
It's basically single fisherman's knot that ties around four strings of (gutted) paracord. It's kind of hard to describe but you can see that there's actually two paracord strips going through the split ring.

That's really clean looking, A.L. A.L. It took me a few minutes to figure out what you did there, but I like it. Nice bead, too. Assuming the cut ends are inside, does the bead stay in place and not drift?

Thanks, it took a while to think how to work that too. :)
The ends are inside indeed, and burned together so they stay neatly in place if the bead slides away. The bead stays in place mostly, by friction but you can easily slide it back.

Very simple lanyard, looped twice through the Link's lanyard hole and tied with an overhand knot. Just large enough to either slip around my palm and hold along with the knife, or slide up around my wrist. For chopping blackberry shoots I hold the knife just forward of the lanyard hole and swing away!

Ok ChazzyP ChazzyP , not exactly original and the nut is a little crusty, ha, but just HAD to copy you guys (snake knot pretty popular) as I am a paracord nut (all hail TIAT!) You guys are all making me up my game in the future, damn you!

Dang, I'm a vampire. Really is nothing like natural light for pics.

Just wait, I'm a come back with my Tomahawks blinged out and iced with fobyards forged in Olympus.

I picked up this beautiful lionSTEEL TiSpine this past week in a private deal with a fellow BF member. I was already planning my bead and lanyard when he let me know he'd tied one up for me before shipping the knife out. It was such a kind and generous thing to do and I'll certainly be keeping his work on my gorgeous new knife for the foreseeable future.

ChazzyP ChazzyP Dang it! You've blown up the forum with pics of this knife for the last two days! They're everywhere....I must have one now! :)

Seriously--how did I not know this knife existed? ...The hunt begins again....

ETA: Nice lanyard work too (to keep the thread on track ;) ).

I'm usually not a big lanyard fan but they work well on my Graham GMT Stubby Razel and Techno.
I added a lanyard to the Razel so I could pull it out of the sheath I use instead of squeezing it up from the bottom.
The Techno works well because it can flip down along the back of the handle and be totally hidden in the pocket if I want to and it gives the little finger something to grab while using the knife.

Simple knot but an extension of the handle on my micro blade.

I saw your pic over a EDC XI yesterday, Low_rez. Kinda cool when the lanyard's not big, but almost larger than the knife. Sweet little blade, man. What do you use for a sheath?

Sweet pics per usual, photoman. Those stubbies on the compact knives look great! I'm more of a long, floppy lanyard-pull guy, but, like you, I wanna tuck 'em down into my pocket if I need to be more discrete. I use a longish starter loop to make that easier while trying to set it up so the loop won't swing to the blade side of the scale and get in the way when opening.

I pocketed my large 25 Plain Jane yesterday with its partially gutted 750 cord tail.

I've been trying for a month to get a good pic; this is the best I can do.

The small Inkosi is olive & coyote 550 that I fused with heat, then used snake knots. I'm really happy with it.

I'm really happy with the 'Zaan lanyard too, but it's nearly impossible to photograph, largely due to camo color, thinner 325 cord, and really tight knots. I started with snake knots but left really long tails. Then I tied back towards the knots with a Solomon Bar. It's really cool in person and works great with cargo pockets!

I couldn't get 550 cord through the CRK lanyard pin. I think CRK uses something in between; I'm thinking it's 425--can anyone confirm?

I got 550 through on my small sebenza. Another guy said this, but I found too that if you cut the 550 cord at a sharp angle rather than straight across, make sure you fuse the end real good so it doesn't fray, and push and twist through the pin, you'll eventually get enough through that you can get a good grip on the end with some needle nose pliers and the 550 cord will slide right on through.

Side note: once I got a bit of the end through, the pliers were more just to get a good grip, I didn't encounter any serious resistance that might possible be damaging to the knife/ pin and the blade still has plenty of clearance.

I'm pretty sure that's 425 cord that CRK uses, BD_01 BD_01 . I have a couple hanks of it and it seems the same thickness. In the past I tried getting 550 cord through the lanyard pin without success, being too dull to figure out the method that Korean Hog Korean Hog mentioned and @halden.doerge posted back at #109.

I've been taking the pins out of my CRKs and running 550 cord through the vacated holes like at posts #41 and #111. I really prefer the look and the flop-factor that looseness and a slightly larger starting loop afford. 25s and Inkosis have no lanyard pins so the cord just wraps the rear standoff which seems simple and clean.

On another note, I had my modded 581 on me yesterday with its 550 licorice cord tied up with two snakes to start and a cheap glass bead between two false turk--AKA diamond--knots.

View attachment 736747 Thanks. This setup also works with tip up knives with belt clips. The lanyard hole has to be sized (enlarged) to fit the push pin. The pin can go in from either direction. I usually leave the lanyard on my belt while I am using the knife. The knife can be carried right or left, in or outside the waist band, and in or outside the belt.
