one of the key points in using a whip knot is once you wrapped it up close to the knife, you need to pull one side of the loop that will cinch/tighten up the start of the wrapping, otherwise it will be a loose mess. Then after it's pulled tight, careful not to pull the tail sticking out as you'll need that to complete the knot, you insert the one end through the loop and then pull it down tight and just part way under the wrap, snip it off close, and then 'carefully' pull the small tail end so it's fully under the wrap and then snip off the other end close as you can. I use small scissors on my SAK Executive folder.

I thought it looked like a waxed thread but wasn't sure. Thank you for the info!

Our friend Dan sent me a nice packet of the beads his brother makes late last summer. I tied my favorite up on my Cheburkov Leader and planned to put two similar to each other on my Delica/Endura pair after adding a Lynch clip to those two. The clips went on as soon as they arrived, but it took me two and a half months to get around to adding the new tails.

I kept things simple with six snake knots on the Delica and three on the Endura terminating with a diamond behind the fatter of the two beads.

Me understanding that ^ is like me telling you how to do an appendectomy.

Lol well, THAT wasn't meant as a tutorial, but further back in this thread you would have found my link to my actual Tutorial that explains things a little better, such as the whipping knot, it doesn't cover the Wide diamond, that I may do sometime but it's a complicated thing to show

My tutorial on tying lanyards

I can only do a Chris Reeve coil lanyard, and I only have one sample done myself o_O and I'm just here to enjoy looking at other people's art. So, I'll just sit back and watch now.

Gary, what size do you find most useful?

I am just starting down the lanyard path and have a couple large, two blade hunters that would look good with a leather lanyard with snake knots. The few knots I have made with the leather just look bad and they will not tighten like I want. The leather cord, string, strip, whatever the proper term is, is 1/16" square. What is the trick to getting a nice tight snake knot with leather?
Thanks
