I've been customizing some Victorinox knives the past couple of years...
Here's my Victorinox Mini-Champ with Sambar stag scales (that I messed up from a Vic Executive SAK project)... going smaller can be a good thing... HAH !
I've been using nitrile o-rings in black & red colors for various lanyards.,, I love black & red combinations !
They make nice separators between knots, and metal bling.
I have a collection of navigational compasses... and I still get lost... HAH !
This little Testrite compass and magnifying glass needs to hang from a knife... so I made a lanyard for it !
I think the snake knot has become one of my favorite knots... cuz I can remember how to do it... HAH !

Great idea with the o-rings. I'm imagining a rubber wiring grommet with a red o-ring in the groove.
Those stag handles are nice too.
I have used the o-rings with brass lanyard beads... the right sized ones will fit nicely in the grooves.
Of course they would fit any bead that has an indented groove.
I usually always add some patina to brass using Birchwood Casey Brass Black followed up with some fine 3M pads or emery cloth.

I got new scales for my Kapara. The CF was nicely done if not a little slick, but I was always kinda meh about it. The natural Micarta has made it seem like a whole new knife to me and I'm really digging it, both for its looks and feel in hand. I kept the same bead but changed up the cord to 550 Desert Heat to add a bit of brightness. I also decided to keep the original dark red backspacer instead of using the nat Micarta one that came with the RGT scales as Kapara is another name for the Australian Redback Spider for which the knife is named.

Here's a custom Victorinox SAK that I put together with Sambar stag scales... I call it the "Trail Mechanic" (merging of a Trail Guide and a Mechanic).
Just figured out how to do a "diamond knot"... need some more practice, especially getting it to end up where I want it.
