The Official Lanyard Thread

I’m typically not one for lanyards / fobs. But my LT Wright Boattail came with a matching bead, made from the same micarta as the handle.

I attached it to the knife with some OD green 550 cord. No fancy knot here, kept this simple and quick to undo if I want. I’ve had it like this for about a month, and am going to continue using it like this till I decide if I really like having the lanyard. At some point, unless the fob gets annoying, I’ll redo it to feature a diamond knot.

Yesterday's mail call brought me a BNIB 551-1 Griptilian. I'd been looking for one since gifting away my 551-1702 and was lucky to find this on the Exchange shortly after it was posted. I kept with the color scheme and used some gray 550 which is almost a perfect match for the scales and the last of my blue glass feruled beads. I often use those for placeholders until I find something I like better for a particular knife, so all five that came in the original pack have been used at least a couple times now. Unfortunately, they seem to be no longer available, but I'll likely keep moving them around going forward.

I decided to use a couple Crown and Diamonds this time around, a knot I used to all-but tie with my eyes closed, but it had been some time since my last and I struggled to get it right. I went back to YouTube for a refresher and it took a while to get the bends right, then a few more tries to get them cinched up properly. The thing with this knot is to take care cinching (or moving it up the cord) a little at a time and not to over tighten as you go, as it's easily ruined or imbalanced and almost impossible to correct once f'd up.

It took me quite a while, but I'm pretty pleased with this pair.

Edit: I probably should have one-sided this tail, as I've been doing that lately to uncomplicate disassembly and help the tail more easily flop. Oh well, I can use the practice should I need to separate the handle sides.
