i know I havent been keeping up much, but whats up with the July challenge? has anyone been picked yet? is there even a july challenge? why did I eat taco bell for lunch?

thanks

No word on the July challenge yet. Mr Becker is out of the country still so I'm guessing they just have not been able to do it yet. Now for the Taco Bell.....You are either high or one of those weirdos that likes to crap at work...or both.

Just got an e-mail from ND Fish and game regarding the lottery for deer tags and regions. I got a buck tag (any antlered) in my 1st choice region!!!! I'm so stoked.
There are so many deer up here and this is my first season to get out and bag one.
Cheers
Balding

Thats pretty cool. It really was like playing the lottery when you sent in your application this year. The number of licenses they are giving out this year was cut in half, so there are going to be a ton of people that get denied. I lucked out and got a buck tag, but my brother and nephew both got denied. What unit are you going to be hunting in? I keep meaning to PM you about fishing, but my job has been so messed up this summer that I never know whats going on.

This Norton works. I have my 9 sharper then it has ever been. Literally popping off hair and will cut perfect ess cuts in paper.

Next step is getting or making a proper strop and buying some compound.

I have a OLD OLD OLD razor strop that belonged to my grandpa....I was thinking about using it, just to put it back in service. The leather is pretty dry, should I condition it with something first or will the strop compound take care of that?

If I need to condition it, what would work best?

Use Mineral oil on it. But my vote is for making your own to put compound on and then using that one as intended.

I'd condition it with something, the compound is just the abrasive in a wax carrier. I think that anything you have around that you might use on your boots to moisten them up would work. Mink oil or something like that maybe? If you want a couple chunks of the bark river compound let me know and I can send you some. I have the black and the green.

According to Uncle Weirdbeard he has several norton stones he uses, once they get gunked up he tosses them in the dishwasher. Not sure about de-oiling them, but that is how he treats them.

The BK15 sharpens up pretty nice. I am having troubles getting my 14 really really sharp tho...I have been going back to it between other knives. Hmmm

Oh well, my 17 is next...see what I can do with that.

Does anybody know when the bK14 in D2 steel is going to be released? I was going to buy another 14 today but then I remembered seeing a thread about the new steel a while back...

Brought my laptop with me in the truck tonight to see if I could connect to someones wifi while I'm sitting here for five hours. Everything was password protected. :thumbdn: Ended up paying verizon to make my cell a mobile hotspot.

I love that you love the way Guyon loves the chat thread.

I have my 17 pretty dang sharp. (for me, prolly not for anyone who knows what they're doing)

re-profiled a bit on the coarse side, then finished on the fine, then polished on 2,000 grit sandpaper, then stropped on cardboard.

I made the edge a lil higher/shallower...it kinda looks convexed because the shiny is so high, the shiny edge is a tad higher then factory. I dunno how it'll hold up, but I aint planning on real heavy beating on it. More concerned about how well it'll cut open a deer.
