When you guys sand a blade, what do you do to get the stuff off near the handle? I'm sanding down the length of the blade. I don't want to go the opposite direction. Even though I know this works, getting the sand marks out is a bitch. The scales don't come off either, so that's out of the question. Tips?
Thanks daizee, I was actually hoping you'd ring in. I was entertaining the thought of going across the grain with a finer grit, then trying to get it back out with a rougher grit, but that's still a bitch.Dubz, the ricasso is VERY difficult to refinish with the handles on for precisely the reason you've identified.
You can use a SHARP sanding block (prolly bevel it so you can get in at a high angle), and place the edge of the block at the ricasso/handle junction. Press, and drag. Lower the block as you drag out toward the tip. I'll be very impressed if you can get it to match the finish on the rest of the blade flat.

When my BK11 comes in what is a good stripper to use to get the paint off?
Sanding sucks. That is all.
