The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

This could go in the sharpening thread as well, but i thought I would add in the speed driver as well. I finally re-loaded my strop (new compound came in) and i went ahead and bought one of the worksharp field sharpeners. So far I love the work sharp, really surprised, and the strop works way better with compound :p. At work i have full sets of wiha drivers, very nice but take up a lot of space (something i dont have a ton of at home). So i ran across this little gem and decided to pick it up as well. The ball rests in your palm and the shaft rotates independently, pretty nifty. There is a magnet to help hold the different bits and best of all its us made.

Which model strop is that?

Nice set up!

Im 90% sure its the profield 2 strop, even though it looks different than the website picture. I have this bad habit of just collecting different things that guys here suggest sharpening wise. So many different methods and finding what works is a bit of trial and error... I still can't get things shaving sharp, but i did manage to filet some printer paper nicely.

I used a work sharp field sharpener for years. It's a great little sharpener. I still use the ceramic rod to touch up my blades.

I carry a Fallkniven DC4 diamond / ceramic whetstone in my kit. I do have the Work Sharp Field Sharpener, too, but I like the larger surface area of the Fallkniven stone. I also carry a 4 1/2 Arkansas Sharpeners ceramic rod for quick touchups.

I'm a sharpener junkie, too, and although I have a full set of Japanese water stones, and a set of the DMT diamonds, I find that little Fallkniven works very well... And it works on my Granfors Bruks Small Forest Axe, too.

So, if adding to your collection based on what guys say... Cough, cough... ;-)

Forte I love the suggestion!! I actually have one of those too, it is in my 5.0 sheath pouch, and for some reason thought it was smaller than the work sharp... I may have to pick another one up, I just pulled it out and its the same length just a little wider.

Rest in Peace David Bowie.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!! I just held my new spec 5.1 for the first time. That new handle feels amazing! The finish looks so clean! And the new sheath is sleek, and wonderfully contoured. If I had good lighting in my house, I would post pics now. This knife was a great catch!!!

Fair enough. Wouldn't want to lose you as a friend, Silver. So, because you asked for it...

Let me just say... I paid a 10% premium for this knife, but believe it's the best value I've ever found in a knife.

This may be an unfair comparison, but it's the same feeling I get when I use a Mora knife from a cost-to-value standpoint... Albeit the Survive! Knives are in a completely different league.

Enjoy the above picture until I am able to get this baby outside.

What a tease!

Not a bad comparison. Value goes way beyond price, it's what you get in a product in any given price range that counts. Not that that is news to any of us.

Enjoy!
