The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

I want to piggy back it with my 7/7 but it has not arrived. :( And i cant seem to pry it from my boot long enough to try it with my esse LS. but its been a thought of mine to do so for a while.

There's a member here, Calc, that doesn't worry about getting the rivets to align on the components he piggybacks. He runs cordage through the rivet holes and secures it all together that way. Pretty slick way to attach stuff that is not necessarily made to work together.

Oh snap! Congrats to all those who helped SURVIVE! "clear out" they're old stock. I just noticed that the factory second GSO 5's are sold out, meaning all old stuff is gone. Wow!

Sounds like we're going to see a lot fewer 'seconds' in the future, too. Congrats to all that got in on them.

Hey boys, happy Father's Day to all the Father's out there!

Is this just a Yankee thing or do you celebrate it world wide?

Edit for terrible dad joke:

I asked Guy if could straighten out the handle of the GSO 12. He replied: I just cant

I might be dreaming, but I think I just read that my 4.7 order is "in production"! =)

Hmmm....I see the site shows 'in production' but it also shows 'available for preorder' still.....?

Wow I guess today is the day for GSOs on the exchange. Nice score AmericanAsApplePie!

Hey thanks HK, but looks like they all ended up going to the first poster. I just saw my Survive! email for my 4.1s so they should be here tomorrow I think! Pretty excited about that :-)

Any SURVIVORS! watching Alone on the History Channel?

I watched the first 2 episodes on the History Channel app which worked well for me because I don't have cable. I was pretty entertained. The show seems way less gimmicky than a lot of other, similar style shows.

Well shoot, sorry about that. I thought you had one wrapped up. Glad the others are getting close!

I've heard this talked about a couple places. I suppose it's too new for NetFlix or Prime, that's what we do currently. So you liked it pretty well? The History Channel app, that's for your smart phone Silver?

TV antenna and Netflix at our house. Yes, the app is on my phone. They still manage to fit in all the commercials, but at least I can watch it when I want.

You probably heard the premise is 10 guys are dropped off far apart from each other on an island in south west Canada. They had to audition or seek out to be on the show and have some survival skills, but none of them are celebrities. They were each allowed to pick 10 items from a list to take with then and they have to do their own camera work. There is no drama between partners because they're all alone and so far nobody is squeezing water from an elephant turd or eating rotting camel just because they can...

Yeah I hate all the drama just for the sake of drama. That sounds like it might be a worthwhile watch, though.

I've seen the show, jumps around a bit right now since there are still a large number of "contestants" will be interesting to see what happens when they have to stay for a while. I always find the tools people bring on these shows interesting. I am constantly pausing when a knife or machete pops up to see if its something good or a last minute wal-mart buy...

It was cool to see some blades I recognized like the Becker bk2 and LT Wright DWX (I think). I winder of the sheath bent any rules with the attached sharpening rod.

There is a whole thread on what gear they used on the other forum. Also a few of the guys have made videos on what 10 items they took and why. Those are on youtube

Yeah, I need to do some more research. I heard the History Channel website has item lists and bios.

NOW here is the real question for all of you here. Knowing that each knife you have counts as one of your ten items, which GSO(s) would you take with you?

I'd say a 4.1 or 5, but part of me wants a 10.

Man, just one......7/7 or :cough: the 8 ;)

If I had a 7/7 I think it would be my choice also! The 10 is amazing but I don't think I'd want to venture off with that extra weight strapped to me.
If I had to go right now and choose from what I have, I'd take my 4.1 with my H&B forge camp axe. Or a Silky saw.

Went climbing at Carderock. Partner let me deck. Cut my shin on a rock. After I got up and finished the climb, I grabbed my 3.5 from my pack, and managed to shave away the hair around the cut. Thankfully it was sharp enough to do so.

This was taken 5 hours after the incident.

What size H&B Forge did you get? You like it pretty good Standard?

It's the medium camp axe with the 17" handle and so far I really like it. It's really lightweight but still big enough to take down a decent size tree if needed. I almost went for the tomahawk model but I really like having the hammer end also.
