The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

Went climbing at Carderock. Partner let me deck. Cut my shin on a rock. After I got up and finished the climb, I grabbed my 3.5 from my pack, and managed to shave away the hair around the cut. Thankfully it was sharp enough to do so.

This was taken 5 hours after the incident.

That's going to leave a mark. I'm glad I'm not the only one that shaved around a wound. I don't know if it's a hygiene thing but it makes taking a bandage off a lot easier!

It prevents hair from getting in there and thus reduces the possibility of an infection.
And the bandage thing.

Dang man, sorry to see that. Although now I have an argument to stock all the kits with 3.5s.

It's the medium camp axe with the 17" handle and so far I really like it. It's really lightweight but still big enough to take down a decent size tree if needed. I almost went for the tomahawk model but I really like having the hammer end also.

Nice. Yeah having a poll is handy for sure.

Should be thankful it wasn't the GSO that cut him...it would have been worse.

Hope it heals quick!

Keeping the hair out also aids in healing by not leaving dead tissue/material, however sterile, to get in the way of regeneration. Hair isn't easily absorbable (think of in-grown hairs), so even when it isn't technically infectious it can still cause problems. I hope it was an awesome time besides the cut! Thanks for sharing the story

On another note. Tomorrow = First Friday Newsletter!

GSO 5's come to papa!

I know I know, if they were ready it would have said in the production update area of the site, but come on, a SURVIVOR! can dream, right?

Ouch! Was that from the 10?

Yep this is after a few weeks of healing. I accidentally broke it open twice at work because I'm to stubborn to wear bandages or get stitches. The tip of the 10 is no joke at all because it sliced right through the glove and my skin with ease and it didn't even fall off of my chopping block.

Haha I'm ready too!

ALSO, I just saw on Facebook that SURVIVE! just moved into a larger location down the street from where they were. Good for them! I hope it helps with production and makes their jobs easier and more comfortable.

Happy Independence Day to all the Americans here! I hope your day is filled with family and food and fireworks and appreciation for what we have.

To the Aussies, I hope you enjoy this Saturday that happens to be the 4th day of July with just as much family and food!

You have a great one as well Silver Needle. My wife and daughter are singing the anthem for the veterans parade here in a few minutes. Got to go. Happy Independence Day!!

Wow! Musical family, that is outstanding. What a great tribute to our country. You have my respect!

^LOL!

Thanks guys. The girls did great, very proud of them. Here's one of the better pics from the ceremony. There was a veteran in the truck that was 92 years old, wearing full dress uniform (I think that uniform is made from wool) and it was 101F here today  No school like the old school man! God bless our veterans.

Yeah these damn knives are sharp!
I learned the hard way.

Ah didn't know that. Good to know.
Yeah, rest of the day was good. Finally managed to climb Herbie's Horror, a thin sandbagged 5.9, clean.

Happy fourth, if a bit late.

I was batoning some oak on my chopping block and I swatted at an annoying bee. When my hand came up, the blade sliced right through my glove. I got lucky that I didn't hit any vessels or any nerves. It was a real dumb@$$ move!!
