The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

I like my 1095. My esse has served well, and most likely will keep serving for a long while. I'm a bit more at ease leaving it in my truck all the time over a $200 gso. I'd hate to get it stolen but rather replace my LS then a gso. That said I would grab a gso 4.0,5.0,or 5.1 any day ending in Y over an esse. Sry esse.

I totally agree, Texas. I have zero issues with 1095, but I'd rather replace a $75 knife than a $200 one.

I really like the idea of factory second GSO'S because I feel great about really beating on them. Part of me is worried I'll hesitate when I get my shiny, new, long awaited starter blades. I'm sure I'll get over it =)

Hey S!K crew.. My name is Mike and I am a long time knife junkie.. I have been lusting after a GSO 4.0 or 3.5 for quite sometime now and have been lurking through this forum since it started.. I don't frequent BladeForums nearly as much as I used to, but I am sure I will be more soon.. Looks like a great bunch of folks here in this forum.. :) I am an avid traditional archer/bowhunter and mtn biker.. My family and I live In the Santa Cruz mountains and spend a lot of time in the woods..

I was recently finally able to get my paws on a GSO 3.5 in 3V, with camo micarta scales.. Should be here sometime next week hopefully.. I have been wanting one of these for awhile now and am pretty stoked, they look like great all around knives, I can't wait to check it out.. I'll get some pics up after it arrives..

I too am a mountain biker... Last year I bought a 29" Stumpjumper FSR. Love that thing.

I recently made the switch from wheely bows to traditional. I have been practicing with my Bear #55 montana longbow and love it. Im getting pretty good. This deer season I am gonna take it on its first hunt.

Do you fish?

Right on.. I Ride an 8 speed Santa Cruz Chameleon.. Loooove this bike.. It's like a BMX on steroids.. :) I also recently scored a a used 2012 Specialized Camber.. My first full suspension.. My body is definitely enjoying it..

I have been a Mountain Biker for many years.. The past 10-12 of those spent riding single speed.. After having multiple knee surgeries, I was forced( by my doctor) to add gears.. So it ever remained an 8 Speed..The area I live in is a mecca for mountain biking, and has a very rich bike scene/culture..

This pic was taken while riding in the Eastern Sierra's.. That is Mammoth Mountain in the background.. I bombed down in multiple times that weekend..

I grew up doing a lot of fishing, but only do it a hand full of times a year these days.. Though i shoot my longbow(s) regularly, The same goes for bowhunting, I try to get out at least once or twice a year..

I totally agree. I'd be really pissed if someone stole my Esee 3 from my truck but at least it wouldn't painful to replace because they're readily available still. I would throw a damn temper tantrum if my 4.1 was stolen!

I also keep my ESEE 3 in my car.. While still still a great knife that I love, It is easily replacable.. I built up a car kit a couple of years back and keep it in the spare compartmant under the floor board in the back of my car..

Nice! Most of the trails here are just single track stuff. No giant mountains to ride. We do have a few ski slopes that offer downhill in the off season, but im scurred. If I get hurt I dont work.

Yep it's the perfect back up in my opinion. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks it's important to have a car kit. Nearly everyone that sees mine thinks I'm a weirdo. It is ridiculously big though but I'm planning on shrinking it down to fit into this.

Here's mine on the bottom now.

It has nearly everything I can think of. Even a damn gas mask!

Any of you guys run tough mudders or spartan races? What about the Ragnar relays? Ive done two mudders and a ragnar trail relay. They were all a blast. You have a good sense of accomplishment when you finish.

Lucky! Have fun and stay safe.

Lucky indeed :) Thanks bud.

This is my feeling as well. 1095 is so user-friendly, goes great in kits, for spares, and BOBs, justy very serviceable. You lose one or somebody swipes it, you can have another tomorrow. Somebody walks off with one of my Survive!s though.........:mad:

:D

I think that kit is awesome. I get ribbed all the time, that truck of mine has so much stuff crammed in it. You could do about anything short of a full motor swap in the hills. But I get into some pretty remote country and do a lot of critter-chasing alone, so you'd better be prepared for some hangups, ha! What else you got in there besides the Survive! and the gas mask, Standard?

Silver's right, nothing much is off topic in this thread man. Thanks for sharing that.

This won't come as big news to most of us here, but credit where it's due----there are some great members in this very subforum. Chris367 and chiral.grolim have both been very generous in recent dealings I've had with them, asking for nothing but a 'pay it forward.' Thank you both gentlemen.

Cool story TT.. Thanks for the link.. There are definitely some great folks in the knife community.. I have been witness to some amazing things over the years..

Quite the storm and winds all up in the midwest. No big deal where I live.

Chiral, how's your property?

Anyone else affected?

Man so much to catch up on! It's great to see all the bikers in this forum, I sold my car about a year ago to help save up for a house. I mostly bike to work now or borrow the wife's car. I don't have a mountain bike anymore though, just a touring bike. The mountain bike was stolen back in '08, but it was old and I'm hopeful it went to someone who needed it vs someone wanting to sell it. As for the car kits, despite not having one, I have been building mine up as well. I use a goruck duffle bag, and have been slowly adding or tweaking. I think it only makes sense to be prepared for your area, and depending on what you drive/how you drive/where you drive, what you need will be completely different. Thanks for sharing the link TT. I likely wouldn't have seen that and now I will be following with interest. It's always nice to see the kindness of strangers in action.

Cheers!

^^ That's a nice looking bike Redwood.. ^^ Surly makes some great stuff.. There are quite a few people that ride them around here.. I didn't have a car for many years and used to ride my single speed bike everywhere.. I wish I was still able to ride to work too.. But we are just too far in the cuts now.. :)

Thanks Mike, My co-workers like to point out that it's a bit hipster....I just remind them how comfortable it is. It's like a mix between an old caddy and a diesel truck. I do wish it was a bit more nimble, and coming from a mountain bike the lack of handling was a bit of an adjustment. I'm only 7 miles from work (almost all on a bike path) so the commute is almost too easy. I originally got a second 3.5 2nd with the plan to mount it to the frame in some way, but I think I would draw the wrong kind of attention.
