The truth about Fällkniven S1 Pro

I don't own any FK knives, so I can't honestly give my opinion on their durability. I do however have an opinion about them being made in Seki by established companies, and if that constitutes a "con"
Honestly I don't think you can claim FK are scamming or conning people for having reputable knife makers produce lines of knives for them. I personally would be very happy if soem of the best makers in Seki city offered to produce a production run of knives for me. I would obviously want to personally test them to see if they meet good standards of retention and durability etc.
I just don't see how that's a con, I mean they openly tell people where the knives are made, and it's not like they went out of their way to let some shady company make them trying to save a few bucks. They clearly sought well respected and established companies to make the knives.
I honestly don't know if this certain model is good or bad, some are saying it's good quality, some are saying it is not as durable as FK pitches it as. It's possible that the knife is not as robust as it should be, and probably could use a tougher steel. I don't think using Japanese companies counts as a con though, maybe the knife shouldn't be touted and sold as a "hard use survival knife" I think that's fair criticism, but telling me "They have their knives made in Seki city Japan" isn't going to make me think "I should avoid that knife" If anything it makes me think "Hey that's a good place to seek out knife makers"

If someone wanted to see an example of a well done liner lock, this is what I would show them. Pretty good for a con job.

Are those FK folders decent in hand quality wise? I've almost bought one so many times, because I really wanted to try out their 3G / Super Gold steel, but the handles looked like they might feel kinda cheap. Nobody I know has one so I cant try them out before I buy. I always look at them though.

That particular model has the LamCoS steel, the micarta models use the 3g steel.

I’m a Glock guy, so I got over the “plastic feels cheap” thing a couple decades ago. If you think the same, then no...it doesn’t feel like a cheap knife. Butter smooth opening, excellent blade shape and grind, and it locks up tight with zero play in any direction.

That particular knife is the PxL Wh (work horse), and being a folder, of course I haven’t beat on it, but it definitely is a stout design. Mine rides in a mid sized travel bag with a proven F1 and a Leatherman ST300.

I'm not against plastic handles, just some of them are more solid than others, when they are linerless I sometimes feel iffy about buying them without handling first. I have no issues with my FRN Spyderco knives. You know it's just when you try a new brand out and have an unsure feeling that's all it is. I like to get people sopinions on them before buying.
That's kind of what I was asking, does it feel cheap or well made, or is it solid feeling or wobbly.
Thanks for the confirmation, I can't remember the knife I was looking at the other day, I think it was called the PCX, I might be mistaken though, it looked very similar to the one you posted, but had black handle, I was thinking of buying that.
Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah I get the models confused because it's not a brand i'm too familiar with apart from looking at them online on dealers sites. I have been looking at some of the CoS models too, all of their steel looks pretty good to be honest, seem to be always running them at 62+ HRC as well, which is nice.

You most certainly had a lemon, because they tend to chip, not roll. Fallknivens are well designed and well made, but they're not up to par with many other similarly priced brands (and many lower priced ones).

the Pro line of models is just internet driven madness imo. They're not better in any way than the regular models, and they cost in the very high end Carothers or Busse range (and they're by far not to the level of these)

If you like Fallkniven quality for less, buy any Hattori knife, made in Japan. They're the ones (among others?) making the knives for them, and they don't have that 100-200$ surplus for the brand.

Fallkniven U2 has the super Gold Powder steel.
About $100- See if you like the “steal” before spending on a larger model.
I really like mine... along with the other FL models I have. Just use them/Sharpen off the Factory edge, no problems.

I just checked, My regular knife dealer has the U2 for sale for only £89.00 pretty impressive price, I might grab one.

I think the premium for Fällkniven is due to similar reasons as the premium for Benchmade, Spyderco, etc. You can't (or at least I can't) justify the price based on materials/performance alone -- the quality of craftsmanship, history of the manufacturer, brand name etc. are factors. That being said, it's inexcusable for a 300$ knife to not perform at least as well as a comparable 30$ Mora.

Great little knife. I can honestly say if I lost mine, I’d rebuy it.

Can you elaborate more? Are you suggesting mora has never had a lemon?

Many Have stated how much they enjoy there FKs. I am one of them. How can so many enjoy the $300 knives that don’t perform as well as a $30 knife? Or am I misunderstanding you?!?!

Or am I misunderstanding you?!?!

Absolutely, maybe I misworded what I was saying. I don't think Fällkniven is overpriced for the market it caters to, and I was alluding to the original poster, who said the edge of his S1 folded from cutting 1" pine. That must be a lemon, so I understand why he'd be unsatisfied with the response he received.

Ah- Understand now. I had a NL Tor Chip a tiny bit of tip on me- Man I was pissed. I then realized how Vg10 can do that, and to sharpen past factory edge. Yet the OP had a different circumstance.
I do truly believe it was a lemon as it’s not a common problem that has been on line often. Perhaps Saki in Seki the night before had something to do with it?

I think more people are happy with the Fallkniven knives than those that are not. Perhaps the many post that state issues are reflecting oh say ....a 10% customer problem with FK. Being that many haven’t posted and how many many many knives they have sold, I’m curious how other companies compare to the customer problems. Busse, Randall, BRK, buck, Cold steel misc.- It’s not like those companies have never had a issue ?!?!?!
Just want to compare Apples to Apples?
what y’all Think?
