The ultimate knife movie.

i know we all agree that the greatest movie of all time was " The Searchers " with John Wayne. question; has any custom maker ever made a knife like Ethan used to scalp the injun Scar ? thanks. paul

Neil:

I believe Arkin's knife was called "Geraldine"... a gravity-fed blade with a naked woman as the handle (?). I've directed the show twice, and could never locate a replica. The last time we used balisongs..... (sigh...)

"My Bosses Daughter" with Aston Kutcher. seriously. lol some thug had a pearl handle H.A.L.O.

Thread starters Rambo selection stands true and even stronger with the new one IMHO.

Has anyone seen the movie "Under Seige?" It's a Steven Seagal picture, but hardly that cheesy---I myself rather like it (although its sequel kind of kills the viability of such a plot). The blade play between Tommy Lee Jones and Steven Seagal at the end of the movie is fun to watch.

:D

Tokyo Rampage (1998). The original title of this Japanese movie was Tokyo Psycho, which fits the movie better. Kind of a slow movie, but features a bunch of one-hand folders, mostly what appears to be an older, now out-of-production Kershaw knife. At one point he pulls out multiple knives on a Yakuza boss; I also recognized a Kershaw Liner Action. I don't think I've seen any other movie where a folder was pulled out so many times.

The Edge.

Night of the Hunter (1955). A serial-killing preacher uses his switchblade as a phallic symbol.

I have heard that Exposure is a good knife film, unfortunately it's not on DVD that I know of.

Jim

Exposure with Peter Coyote and Tcheky Karyo is the number one knife picture. Hero accidentally saves the life of a knife fighter, then, after being stabbed, he trains in the art of knife fighting. There's even a scene where they go to the underground knife dealer and he speaks of knives with tones of reverence. The knife training is much better than you'd expect, basically a blend of FMA with some old school fencing stuff and the movie ends with a knife showdown. Shame it was never put on DVD; it's only on VHS.

"DEXTER" on Shotime. Every episode has a cool knife in it. The first episode I ever saw has the main character using a Spydie Endura. They are usually very brief scenes but I find it fun trying to look for them and identifying the blades.

From way back in 1989, a Jean-Claude Van Damme's post apocalyptic sci-fi/martial arts actioner entitled - "CYBORG".
Not the ultimate knife movie and definately not the best Van Damme either; but it's filled with the kind of things which by todays standards seems pretty lame.
Almost like Arnie's, "Commando".
And before you go out there to beg, steal or borrow the movie, DON'T.
You just got lucky.
Some dude has actually up loaded the best fight sequence of the entire movie over at you-tube,
So...enjoy, but a little friendly advice that it's a little outrageous with it's violence.
Kids, don't try this at home.

prolly been mentioned before but I have to lay down some kudos to "the hunted" with benicio del toro and tommy lee jones.

tom brown is a madman !

I hope that I am not the only one (age???) who remembers the movie "WAIT UNTIL DARK" with Alan Arkin and Audrey Hepburn?

I think it came out in the late 1960's.

He had a name for that knife......

Neil

Geraldine.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie it was an out the front auto with a handle that was a little statue.

One of the other character carried a straight razor, and the movie also featured some very...interesting...use of kitchen cutlery.

Really amazing film, one of my favorites.
One of the most unique plots I have ever seen, and Alan Arkin can be incredibly creepy when he wants...

I agree heartily. Ever notice that Jeffrey Hunter aka Martin Pawley carries a Marine Fighting Knife/Kabar?

It's very obvious if you happen to see the film projected in an "unmasked" format. The film's proper format, "VistaVision," was a sort-of wide screen presentation, which was achieved by each theater's projectionist cropping the top and bottom edges of the image slightly, to give the film a wider appearance. Films made in this format, but screened improperly, often reveal microphones dangling above the actors, and other such "errors." During the 1950's, when studios were trying all sorts of gimmicks to pull people away from their televisions, many different wide-screen formats were employed.

In the scene where Ethan and Martin argue about Ethan's will, Martin pulls his knife on Ethan and it can be seen as a Kabar-type blade. It is also revealed as such in other scenes, but you have to watch closely. The current DVD is shown in the "wide screen" version. Also note that the hand with which Martin holds the knife in the "will" scene changes from right to left and then back again when the scene cuts from close-up to two-shot.

The "Kabar" is anachronistic to be sure, as are most of the firearms used in the film. But there is no consequent diminishment of the film's greatness.

Kinda corny but I loved the knife scenes in Croc Dundee. Specifically the sound made when he pulled that huge knife out in the mugging scene. I have been enamored with knives ever since. :D

I havn't read through thread, and it has prob been mentioned(and put down)....but I love Kill Bill, one and two, and there both on tonight.

I was interested in knives long before the movie came out, but when Exposure (IMDB has it as "A Grande Arte") came out with Peter Coyote..you can't help but to think "that's a knife movie!" because that IS the movie.

The Hunted that was all about knife fighting and making their own custom knife. The end fight scene is with make shift knives too. It has Tommy Lee Jones as an actor in it.
