Oh don’t feel like you have too. I’m just participating in the conversation. I guess I don’t care which nailnick, but I don’t like the placement of the crescent on the mockup. No disrespect to you.
Thank you for taking the time for mockups. It really just solidifies how much I like the red soupbone covers. I wonder what other models have been done in it.
These are all Charlie's SFOs...nothing else has been released with soup bone (in the production totals that I am aware of).

Ok maybe count me in the minority here, but it doesn’t appeal to me for this traditional forum knife to simply be modelled after the most desirable and rarest or most sought after GEC pattern.

If every club did that, we would be swamped with different versions of the TC Barlow or Beer Scout knife with red handles, matchstriker long pulls, ornate bolsters and caplifter secondaries.

If every time Bill gets a request for a club knife, or for a SFO, and it’s always on those lines, I am concerned he would start quickly getting tired of it and maybe lose interest in helping us out.

I know it’s a fine line and people will have different views on whether its crossed, but I am just putting a concern out there for consideration.

Personally I favour a subtle variation on a handle, not too risky, but not more of the same either. That’s why something like sawcut callico bone appeals. It’s just different enough.

I completely agree...although I can't help but recall how things went in 2019. We offered up quite a variety of material options but ended up with one of the basics after the polls. Not that it didn't turn out wonderful, but it is hard to convince a group majority to go for a unique variation unless it is really compelling.

Like blue soup bone?

Goodness knows we wouldn’t want anything desirable or rare or highly sought after! And wouldn’t it be horrible to be swamped with TC Barlows or, God forbid, Beer Scouts?! Yes, let’s stick with a subtle variation on a handle and not too risky please.

Good grief!

I am sure Bill Howard could not care less which color dye we select.

Preach!

As we end up with another black wood knife.:eek:o_O:poop:

I know I will be a smalllll minority, but that blue soup bone is gorgeous. I love blue handles! Blue camel bone etc is never dark enough blue for me.

The whole debacle will be solved by a small minority...Im with you...blue is good....GEC hasnt done much blue....if you look at the Makos they were dark dark blue almost black....so we will get the black bone crew on on board as well.....blue ropecut bone would also be a new platform for GEC ...its pretty much sawcut but with a more workaday look and grippiness...so welcome on board The Sawcutter contingent...fairly soon we will be the majority ...and all because blue ropecut bone is the best....brilliant...Thanks rcs86 rcs86 .

Preach!

Satan will be snowboarding to work the day we get black wood on this years knife...

I like the idea of smooth white bone—-consistent, unique to a BF forum knife, and can be dyed by those who want it a different color, or sawcut for those who want it that way. Or we could keep @r8shell busy doing custom scrimshaw for folks. :)

It’s like a blank pallet.

I get your concern, but I don’t think that just picking a rare or desirable handle material means that we are modeling it after a particular knife. With the different bolster treatment and no bolster stamp, this won’t be like any previous GEC. I think the red soup bone looks cool, and I think sawcut calico sounds cool, too. I’m for whatever the community decides, rare or common, unless it ends up looking like Barbie’s bass boat.

Im not too concerned about it being a rare hard to get gec, afterall, all gecs are rare and hard to get these days. Im thinking about what is stunning and also about this opportunity to get something we might not get any other time.

a side note, there will be other 86s in this run. Im not sure we want to pick something that they are doing in the normal run.

Who said I was going for something subtle! I was in favour of the original proposal, which was new and different. But then there were pages and pages of posts suggesting we should be happy with whatever GEC could offer.

Good point. They probably aren’t releasing that information, but it would be good to know what the general releases are as we make our choices. I’m sure Bill will steer us in the right direction if we pick something too similar.

Last time we got a different blade than the regular release. Does anyone know if the rest of the release is a clip point or if this bolster is just for the forum knife or if it will be on all of them? @waynorth Charlie?
