The unofficial, non binding, carries no weight, 2021 forum knife possibility discussion thread

I thought it was the bladeforums knife because traditional is the heart and soul of the forum. Wherever your knife enthusiasm takes you, you can always come back to the home to traditional patterns. It helps to remind people how it all got started.

Another issue with limiting everyone to only one is the give aways these porch dwellers are so fond of. Maybe there can be a sort of application process to purchase a second? Maybe sign a form not to sell it within a years time?

Here's one more twist:

What if we just asked Bill Howard to provide a "Bill Howard Special" as the forum knife? I'm pretty sure he's only going to say "yes" if it is a knife that they can easily source the patterns, materials, etc. for and fits within their current production schedule. Wouldn't it be interesting to see what Bill Howard chose to give us as a forum of traditional knife nuts?

He has been having fun with combs lately... probably would be a comb without a blade

While I would find it interesting, I expect if we did that, it would end up being some neat oddball design, or have odd features (like a comb) that will have the purists bellyaching even worse than they were in the Beer & Sausage and Urban Jack threads.

Those patterns sold out pretty quick, just sayin' ;)

Well, I have been lurking on these boards for more than a decade and I think I will chime in on this one. I would definitely be interested in buying a forum knife. My preferences:

I would be fine with any US-maker of high-quality traditional slip joints - GEC would be great of course. I agree with the limit 1/person in this case.
I love the colored smooth or jigged bone scales: red, blue, green
I really like wharncliffe or lambsfoot main blades.
I really like the idea of a traditional pattern you do not see very often.
Patterns I am fond of: canoe, splitback whittlers (especially with wharncliffe mains), sunfish/elephant toe, single-blade barlows.
Cost <$150

Getting a revitalized S&M to make it would be amazing, if they were ready and the quality were there.

I think there should be a big marking on the blade - rather than say "Northfield," it says "Not for resale":D
Sequential numbering relating to buyers forum name listed right in the forum knife thread for reference.
Might give flippers pause selling them if they're accountable.
Easy enough, GEC used to number collector series, maybe still do?

How about an "Oops! All Combs" edition? Maybe a nice little Stockman, but with three combs? :D

All this talk of COMBS ;)

There's only one COMBS worth talking about and it's one sharp COMBS too

Sean Combs :cool::D

It is common that we need members to purchase more than one knife to meet the 300 or 350 knife cut off. Some members buy more than one to give as gifts to children or parents or friends.

Everyone imagining ways to restrict the numbers or marketability of a 2021 forum knife is way off track.

In the past we have barely satisfied the cut off number, or a dealer or members have stepped in and purchased the missing number of knives so the project could happen.

Anyway, if you marked the blades “not for resale” it would just increase the value on the resale market because now it is forbidden! You cannot win this war.

...Furthermore if not resolved you shall be subject to disciplinary action and the harshest penalties enforcable by the Porchenberg Navy...

You know, I read this like four times, and Porchenberg kept coming out Porchberg. I had this image of the USS Forum Knife hitting a gigantic porch shaped iceberg. Then Leonardo DiCaprio drowned again, so it wasn't all bad.

I agree, and add, do we need to solve the flipping issue for the purposes of this knife? If we can park that as a separate problem it may help.

Best Captain Sir Pellew voice:
OH Do ye Sir? DoYe Indeed? Well you will be pleased to hear Mr Black that I have a task that will be to yer LIKING! Lay Aloft to the crows nest and watch for any flippers as we cross the Bay of Uncertainty . The waters here teem with sharks ,stingarees and slimy poisonous jelly blubbers...But mark me Sir! There is no creature in the world as loathsome and treacherous as the wily Flipper.
The rest of you layabouts stop lollygagging and tend the ship. We have a long and arduous week ahead whilst the Helmsman steers us across the Bay of Uncertainty before we can set sail. We must pass the Islands of Stupidity and avoid running aground on Preposterous Suggestion Reef...
This is well charted water and the horizon looks clear..

HEY! I do the maritime references round here! :D:D:D:p
Good on you Charlie...whatever will be will be ...i think it was the philosopher Day who said that....personally I have a good feeling ...you have started the process in a very positive way ...and thats how we should go on..
Cheers....

But the siren songs coming from Preposterous Suggestion Reef are so sweet sounding and seductive?
where else can we hear the wonders of the unobtanium scaled 3-bladed whaler with single spring (the dual secondary end split, of course) and the 2 secondaries krinked in opposite directions so as to nest around the main blade?
