The upcoming, anticipated, way-too-excited GEC 85's Thread!

I have supplied my own sambar stag to previous runs of the #77. Every time I go through it and send them the best of what I have. After going thru it 2-3 times, what I had left was the bottom of the heap (culls). So the original plan was to just buff off most of the texture and leave it looking somewhat like elk of past runs. But during the process some thought there was a few that looked good enough to not buff it down; so we left it. So there was "Stag" left largely alone and "SP Stag" (smooth polished). There are some really nice pieces of both, but I was able to price it for very little premium over the other slab options.

Thanks for the explanation Mike! I, for one, am looking forward to the surprise of what shows up in the tube.
Brian

Absolutely! I'm particular, like most people, when it comes to stag and like to pick out a specific knife, but in this case, I'm curious to see what I will end up with. Thanks Mike for all of your work on getting these together!

I went with the smooth polished on my 2 blade version because I didn't want thick scales on what will already be a substantial knife. That said, having the two options in stag just provided another option in a well thought out SFO, and ensured that there's something for everyone. Thanks again Mike and GEC!

Got my notice.. Natural canvas is headed to "The Rocks" !!! John

I am curious, who will be the first to post in here that they have received theirs (regardless of model/scale)?

It is not likely that I will be the first since my tracking number doesn't register yet on USPS.

Same here. Mike did say they might not ship until 3/7 when he had them all in; maybe he's just getting a head start by generating the shipping labels. I'm in no rush, but I am looking forward to getting mine!

Are you guys intentionally trying to get smacked by the mods? Let's talk knives!

Patiently waiting.....

IMpatiently waiting... here's a bit of an oddballl for this pattern.... AF Bannister and very unique jigging.

Obviously someone has "cleaned up" the blades at some point, and then apparently scratched the hell out of them after that. LOL.

Interesting knife with an interesting history while I wait on my now FOUR 85's from this SFO (managed to grab a bloodwood scandi on "maybe")

Has there ever been a tear drop pattern made with a clip point? just curious. (not exclusively GEC)

Yeah, GEC made an 85 with a clip. Been pics in this thread and I've seen a few places that still have them in stock. Not near as fitting on the frame to my eye anyways.

I don't recall exactly, but don't think these were labeled "polished stag" on GEC's site, but are now...

Those are polished? They just look fitted to me. Maybe the unpolished ones are just raw chunks of antler pinned to the liners with the corners all sticking out? ;)

I haven't seen any 85 in stock anywhere.
Here is a cocobolo 2 blade that has been with me almost everyday since it was new in 2011. It was very light brown and stripey when it was new, now it looks almost like Ebony.
Also my tracking # shows picked up/ accepted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ramrodmb, that wood is really dark looking! Would have never guessed that was cocobolo. Good looking knife!

That's what GEC's site says, but you know how they are with the description for their pictures. Maybe it's mislabeled, maybe not...
