The upcoming, anticipated, way-too-excited GEC 85's Thread!

I know I am late to the party, but just got my two today. I spent some time putting a short video together though.

It's never too late Jeff! Congrats on getting two very nice ones!

Im curious about another aspect of these knives. There were some leftovers posted the other night for sale. Some seconds andsome marked EDC. If anyone here was able to buy them, I'd like to see what made them a second or an EDC marked knife.

I was able to get a smooth polished stag single blade marked as an EDC. There wasn't a picture and the description just said that it had mismatched stag. I'm hoping that one side is polished and the other is more natural! Best of both!

Mike, if you read this, please don't tell me what the knife looks like! I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival so the mystery will be solved!

I should add that I understand that it's cosmetic issues that make a knife from GEC a second or EDC. I'm interested more in seeing the actual pictures of these knives showing the "issue".

One side was stag and the other side Canvas Micarta.

When were these posted? Dang it!!!!!! I've been checking every freakin minute for something....

Well that should make it the most unique ever, thanks!! I'll be sure to treat it well!

Cbr....they were up Monday night from what I could find. Literally gone in seconds. It was all luck.

So, my main three arrived on Monday. However, I refrained from posting until the 'lightly' polished stag arrived (which was today ).

Clean blades, tight fit and finish, and I'm really happy with how the stag came out(my first one).
I had been unnecessarily worried about how 'thick' it was going to be. It turns out it 'feels' very comfortable in hand; it has a good heft without being overly bulky.
In addition, it possesses just the right amount of character for me.

Mike & GEC did an excellent job putting this all together; I'm looking forward to Mike's next SFO.

That's some very nice Stag MrBitters, well matched mark/pile sides and one of the better ones I've seen:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I wish GEC's regular runs of stag covers looked as good as Mike's leftover cull stag does on these 85's. I guess it's the polishing treatment, but I really like the way these turned out.

That's some nice evenly matched stag Mr. Bitters. Great figure on both sides. Well done! I agree with cbr also. They made the stag look so nice on these knives!

donutsrule, Tim, MrBitters, Mark - congrats on the stag... beautiful! Like others, I didn't know quite what to expect (part of the fun!), but man! They are something special.

And Jake, I just noticed you got the "Cover Stag"... very excellent! Congrats!

Jeff, I really enjoyed your video. Thanks for taking the time to make it!

I sure would have liked to get one of those beautiful stags, but by the time I saw the train coming down the track, I barely jumped aboard the caboose. I did come away with one bloodwood, of which I'm thankful.

Carried my sabre grind yellow jigged 85 today and I have to say, I love this knife! So sharp! At first I was disappointed I missed out on the flat grind, but now I'm absolutely loving the sabre grind and happy I ended up with it. Fit and finish on mine is as nice as I've seen on any GEC or other production knife. Best GEC purchase I've made I think!

Slide13, I received the same knife today and am quite impressed. Fit and finish is spot on as are those wonderful grinds on the sabre blade. Mine was acceptably sharp except for the tip which was quite obtuse. No biggie, getting ready to pop a cold one and pretty up the edge. Also shown is tonite's tool of the day....

I have to say, maybe it's a perception issue, but the sabre grinds appeal to me as more "workmanlike" if that makes sense. I love the big FFG spears, but there's something almost delicate about them, or at least the way I perceive them.

I've been thinking quite a bit about how the sabre feels like a beefier blade, something I would be less hesitant to put to a bigger task.

Still a toss-up as I love the visual beauty of the FFG. Glad I have both, I guess!!!!!

The thicker spine implies a stronger blade, and I prefer that too (surprising since its my first sabre traditional).
