The thicker spine implies a stronger blade, and I prefer that too (surprising since its my first sabre traditional).
Is the blade thicker in the scandi's?
I think they are, but I haven't measured it or anything scientific. Spear is a slicer and the saber is a better worker, IMO.
Like Mike said, Micarta on one side and Stag on the other lol. Looks cool, another good one for you. The flippers are storming the for sale section so I'm outta luck...
I like them both a lot. Both stag are so different from one another but with it's own personality that I wouldn't be able to choose which I like better. I'd have to flip a coin and then still wouldn't be satisfied.View attachment 621110View attachment 621111View attachment 621112View attachment 621113
Here are my 2 stags. One polished, one regular. LOVE them both!! Also both new stags with my old Cocobolo from 2011. Thanks Mike
Lol yeah I guess Mike did give it away! I really like the difference in the color as it doesn't make it any less of a top quality knife to me in the least. I'll also note that the big "crack" isn't felt at all and it doesn't go all the way through the scale so I'm not worried about it.

I'm guessing it's just EDC because of the stag - so it's not marked with an "S" as a "second"?
I am loving my single blade saber/Scandi antiqued yellow jig bone but unfortunately mine came with a nick in the blade.. It appears that either they took a little to much off the kick or didn't quite grind the blade down enough.. And the blade is hitting the pin that is holding the backspring in place when closing.. I tried to take it down some by sharpening it .. And though it's now razor sharp just closing the knife a few times and the nick is back.. Anyone else experience this?
It's a very normal occurrence with all 85's in my experience.
If you slam the blade down due to just closing it one handed it'll over travel and hit the backspring, thus denting or rolling your edge.
You either just have to keep on sharpening away until you have that clearance or close the blade carefully.
I close most if not all my knives with two hands now, especially 85's.
I really wish GEC would have done something to address this known issue this time around.
UAB- So glad you were able to score one!!! It will sharpen out without too much trouble or blade loss...still very annoying though.
