The upcoming, anticipated, way-too-excited GEC 85's Thread!

I'm personally hoping for an ironwood/bocote wood or something of the sort, which I bet there will be. And some kind of jigged or smooth blue bone, which I think that's a pipedream. Just think how sweet would a 85 look in blue camel bone.
I'd be into pretty much any slippy in smooth blue bone  Not sure if they would offer that with the Tidiouettes though but doesn't hurt to dream :)

Being new, I have never seen a #85. It definitely has a different look. I think it is intriguing though.

We don’t get much bocote anymore. I wonder why.

Since the gaboon ebony they’ve been getting is almost like Macassar, with chocolate colored swirls, I’m hoping they try some funky woods out. Black and white ebony could be cool if it was varied enough. Maybe some lignum.

Yeah I missed out on Mike's early reserve for these. I know he has a lifetime contract on the Norfield Version of the 85 but will GEC be doing a run of the Tideout versions for everyone else that sells GEC Knives?

Yes, a couple people posted in the GEC thread there will be a regular run too.

Figured I'd drop a couple old photos in here since this thread is back up on the front page. :D

Lignum Vitae is one of my FAVORITE woods! I've wondered why we don't see it more often, especially in traditional patterns - incredibly dense, oily, colorful and smells great. :D

It's under CITES Appendix II; which means permits are required to import/export. Thus, that puts a damper on a lot of folks ability to easily source / deliver.

Interesting... I missed the reserve on these as well. I never knew the Northfield line was locked up by CK. So you are saying there could be possibly more made in the Tid. line for other distributors... this is great information and I really appreciate it!

Keeping up the excitement...

Question out of curiosity - Northfield Smooth Frontier Dyed Buffalo bone: Bubalus bubalis or Bison bison? I'm guessing since it's frontier bone, the American Bison over the Asian Water Buffalo.

That’s a good question. I’ve found scales for knife making made of both species. Mike Latham sourced the bone though, I bet he could answer that.

I’m wondering what the covers and shield on the oyster pearl acrylic is going to look like. Any ideas?

I hope they change their mind and throw in a 2 blade version. Single blade and EO notch just doesn't do it for me although I could still live with the latter if you just add it a pen secondary or something.
