Here ya go guys, first of that deer I shot. Sliced up and marinated the back strap for a few days, wrapped bacon around it and grilled. Yum.

What time is dinner? I'm on my way.

Is that a set of steak knives? You can just mail me my place setting! :)

Looks like some fine fare machine!

Don't know bud, I'm kinda fond of that steak knife. :p

TY, was worth the wait, too bad it took so long.

Thank guys.

Figured this meal deserved better than cheapo steak knives out of the kitchen drawer. ;)

Fighting a head cold yesterday and today. It`s not as bad as it was, but still feeling congested. We had to get up at 12:30 this morning, Connie had to be at work at 2!

Rest & fluids as they say John.

I have some strange swelling going on in my right ear & behind it going down to my jaw line.
It was so tender two nights ago I couldn't lay on my right side(my favorite for sleeping)but it's not as tender now so I'm hoping my body is healing itself.
I hate popping pills, but have been eating aspirin & it seems to be helping.
Luckily I haven't had a fever so haven't needed to go to a doctor.(hate doctors)

And it's cold here,down in the 20s at night.Brrrr.
Dang Canada & their cold air.....;)

Get better John and Myke!

Went out this morning at the asscrack of dawn for the second shotgun season opener. Drove my car part way down a grass lane to get a little closer. As I opened my car door to get the shotgun, I heard a couple deer snorting and wheezing and carrying-on. Busted, and my hunt hadn't even started yet.:grumpy:

Oh well. More fish in the sea. Or deer in the woods, as the case may be.:D

Decided to proceed into the valley, and picked out a worthy looking tree to sit in front of. It is a very cool experience to be in woods at dawn and watch it wake up. Squirrels barking, birds chirping, a couple hen turkeys clucking back and forth down the way. Crisp, gentle breeze blowing down the valley as black turns to different shades of gray. Sun casting its first rays through the trees. Really an overall fantastic experience.

Fast forward an hour and half and my legs have fallen asleep and my ass is numb from sitting on the frozen ground. No deer activity to speak of. Enough of this waiting, time to go hunt.

Stood on wobbly, tingly legs, got my balance and proceeded to get my stealth on. :D

Crept slowly through the middle of the pasture, (we call them) "mountains" on either side. Perhaps 200 feet steep enough to require four legs to efficiently traverse.

Made it about 70 yards in 20 minutes, hugging the mountain to the west. Keeping my eyes peeled for any sign of movement.

That came soon in the form of a couple white tails bouncing through the woods away from me. Decided perhaps it would be a good idea to walk towards the mountain on the east, in the hopes that the two runaways would try to make a break for it and cut across the pasture, go up the hill and cross the property line. As I stood watching intently for any movement to the west, I heard a couple crunching leaves to my right.

Slowly turned to see what the commotion was and saw about half a dozen does walking around at the bottom of the east mountain. As I raised Grandpa's Wingmaster to my shoulder, they started to scramble. Went in all different directions, including one coming straight at me. She turned broad side about 15 yards away, so I took my aim and pulled the trigger. She turned and high-tailed it away from me for about 20 yards before falling over.

Dead, my first deer.
