The "Whatever" Thread

finaly put my k tool on some keys recently been meaning to upload a picture but can't find my card reader for the job of transfering it from the camera to the computer.

Still, i posted about it, that counts right?

Unfortunately I didn't get pictures because my phone died and I was alright being without electronics this weekend. I brought the Hiker's backup and the C/U-3.5 with me. Both knives performed amazingly! Both got used for food prep, fire prep, odds and ends around the campsite, etc. Really confident in saying that the quality of these knives far exceed the price you pay for them. Definitely recommending these knives to everyone (as if I wasn't already haha)

Cool show on TV tonight. Forged in Fire on the History Channel at 9:00 p.m. Central Time.
Its a Blade smith competition. Blacksmith Peter Martin from the Badger Knife Club in Wisconsin is in the competition. He showed me how to pound out my first knife. He make excellent knives.

oh, i meant to watch that. i will have to look for it on demand. thanks for the reminder.

I seen the show, its not to bad. I would like to see the forging process in more detail, but I guess the average viewer would be bored. I didn't see Peter Martin in the first episode but it's a series, so maybe in a upcoming one.

Pressure washed the back patio and under the carport this weekend.
Its amazing how much brighter that concrete and paint gets once all the crud and spidey webs are gone.

I made the smart move of vacuuming up all the spiders before I started pressure washing.
I didn't want those buggers crawling all over my head while I was working!

rainy day yesterday and my plans were washed out, so decided to finally make some new scales for my panfish. what a disaster! used black paper and did it a little differently this time. i put the epoxy in a baking pan so i could move quicker by essentially dousing the strips in that and then stacking. but even though i tried to remove excess after, there was a LOT of epoxy on each strip. when i went to press the stack together, they moved all over the place. we'll see what i get when i get back home, but i don't expect it to be usable. inf act, i probably just glued my skis together (used a pair of old cut skis as my press).

i am going to work on creating a "jig" for it, i think. i.e. i think i am going to create a "press box", for lack of a better description. this should help prevent the material from moving around. then hopefully, 3rd time is a charm??

I had a friend forge a batch of strikers for Gathering gift fire kits. Perhaps we could have a fire skills themed Fall Gathering. In MI of course.

I'm wanting another JK and have been working on a pattern. I also, inspired by the work Of Mr. K, KYenglish and others, want to put the scales on myself. So, I decided the only thing to do was to make a "dry run". This would be a test of the pattern and of my ability to shape the scales.

The "blade" is a piece of hard maple with mahogany handles. I pinned them with a maple dowel.

After a coat of BLO.

Take aways from the experience: 1) I like my pattern. It's very comfortable in my hand. 2) I need more practice before I start sanding on a JK. 3) It was fun and my son thinks I made it for him and wants it.

Can the guys who have not ever been to a Michigan Gathering just bring a Zippo? Do we need tools for grill building, or does Andy have that covered? I can make a fire by rubbing 2 Zippos together!

Of course! All methods of fire craft are welcome.
